What engine does you GDI have (4g93 or 4g94)? and whats bad about it? reason i ask is that there are mechanics than can rebuild these engines, the rebuild kits are available for the 4g93, not sure about the 4g94.
A conversion might not be your only option.

^^ rock solid !! NEVER look at a conversion as your first option.. there are way too many options swimming around to explore before conversion comes up :!:

sinnette, i don't think a 4g15 should even be an option, 1.5 in a galant i think not

the 4g93 is a little problematic if they're not maintained properly, it's better to rebuild your engine properly cause after you'll know exactly what you have, a swap may work but there's no guarantee that the engine will be rock solid.
if your present engine is beyond repair and you're looking for an easy swap try to get a 4g63 sohc from the earlier galant, not much mods, reliable engine and you'll be able to use super and save some money.

4G63 not from ah earlier galant but from the shitty local version of the same car.

more options

6A12MIVEC from FTO
6A13 from local galant
6A13TT from VR4

4G15 to small

was talkin bout series  they have less features than the foreign but the engine is reliable, honestly if i have to replace a 4g93 i won't go with a 6a engine for a daily driver cause they are gas guzzlers, i know i have a vr4, buy shares in np
the 4g93t seem s the best choice imho, not much mods to install, better on gas than the 6a, and it has that spinny thing
