Bad experience Royal Purple 10w30

Postby ecktt » January 9th, 2010, 10:10 pm

Changed oil about 2000 miles back from my usual Mobile 1 10w30 to Royal Purple 10w30 because the shop was out. Checked the oil today to find that the oil level was just above the low mark. Check for and didn't find any oil leaks so I assume that this oil is getting burned up. Anyone else had this experience with Royal Purple? Up till this point, the 4g63 oil levels remain practically the same between oil changes.

I can relate when i used this with the 4G93T in the lancer... caused the lifters to knock heavily and also found it to burn off quickly.

But I would add that at 10w30 I found it was too thin for my liking and thence on I've been using AMSoil 15w40 in both the lancer and the evo... very little burnoff if at all.

Where to get Amsoil? Preferably in a central location. I wanna get this crap out of my engine asap.

I have been using AMSOIL 10w-40 in my car, switched to AMSOIL 20w-50 at last oil change.
Most 10w-30 oils tend to burn off in my case, even the AMSOIL 10w-30 showed some loss.

burn off is normal when talking about some of those oils in cars such as an evo

burning off doesn't make it a bad oil just that the flash point is low and may not be such a good oil for an engine such as a 4g63t

with my car as the oil aged, it burns off less

10W30 may be a bit to volatile fo our hot climate....I had a lot of burnoff using a 10W30 Red Line oil in my B16A....switched back to Mobil 1 15W50 and oil level remains almost constant between oil changes

10w30 oi,l as ek4ever is said, is too thin for a hot country like this since the highest end of the grade is 30. It is more suitable for colder countries. I use Castrol 20W50 "right through" with very very little loss at oli change.

I've burnt out Castrol 20W50.
NP Ultra (20W50) is the only oil that lasts an oil change in our engines.

I have a feeling the clearances and oil consumption on the 4G63 is a bit higher than regular engines. Over the years with mobile 1 10W30 on both cars, there was a bit of burn off between oil changes, up to a half quart or so. This last oil change I did 3800km's ago, I have found very little burn off when I switched to Amsoil 20W50.

So am in the process of flushing out that Royal Purple from my engine this week with some NP SEA50 (not crossing 2500 rpm) to do a proper oil change this weekend with Amsoil and my mechanic calls to say that he just saw a demo of some oil called "Schaeffer". The test involved an electric motor attached to a bearing with some sort of electrical read-out. The bearing is then pressed against metal leaver to simulate metal on metal friction. Amsoil apparently locked up at a reading of 10ish while the Schaeffer kept on spinning no matter how hard they pressed the leaver.

Anyone had any experience with Schaeffer oils?
