^^ build or out of the box which is even better .. like for instance do i want sayc or not, because will it stand up to the abuse of 500 hp ? ... do i want want the mr spec for its handeling or rs spec for its weight reduction ??.. do I want the 6 speed or 5 speed manual tranny ?.. is the mivec 4g63 better or the non mivec 63 .. ? should I start on the fq 320 - 360 base as it lightly tuned already and all i my need is cople of mods and presto 500 .. reason why im asking these questions is that its good info for mitsu men who are venturing to buy and evo (2 a friend of mine asked me the same question and i couldn't give him a straight answer then he say " I tought you were a mitsu man lol"). dont rule out the fq because you are get used low mileage , well maintained ( service history) fq evo in uk for 180K tt and up and if you nego. i bet you will get cheaper...

first u need to identify what is available to you
RS, RSII, GSR, MR, FQ line?
Evo 1-10?
Then I think u can narrow it down.
Identify use and then choose which model would best suit needs.

From what I've read, most people in the UK would choose an FQ300 model or an standard jdm gsr import to mod as its cheaper to start with and most of the additional parts on the FQ 320, 340 etc would need to be replaced to make the power that you want.

From japan, the VIII & IX mr came in both gsr and rs trims.

I'm not sure if the sayc will stand up to that kind of abuse so your best choice would be between the VIII MR RS, IX RS, IX MR RS or IX GT.

I think that the earlier models of the IX GT had an issue with the turbo but this would be replaced anyway for 500WHP. IX GT also has the benefit of the gsr creature comforts.

If you're looking at UK cars, why not choose one that is already modified to the spec you're after...check www.lancerregister.com

Agreed^.

If you could get your hands on the FQ400 you will be on like that. Other than that go for the 9 MR

i would go for a Evo VII (engine at least), for parts and availability..

your budget is also a big factor....i personally would like to do a complete and perfect build .

what you are saying is much more expensive than you think.

Ahmm, FQ 400 is maybe the worst Special Edition model ever built by Image UK, padna. LAG!...
Then more LAG again!... No bottom-end torque... Even a used one is too EXPENSIVE!
MLR wrote:... 405bhp @ 6400rpm and... 355lb/ft @ 5500rpm.
considering the reason for its existence in the first place, and how other 400bhp Evos deliver the
power, it's not special enough in either appearance or power delivery to be the commemorative
collectors' item it aspires to be.

Link--> MLR FQ400 Report.
Yup it beat a Pagani Zonda... but so what. Almost any Evo could do that...
IMHO that engine is still crap. Peak torque to peak power is LESS than 1,000 RPM :!: :?:

Look--> Twice the flexability... 20% more torque... 5% more power... very little lag... ½ the price.

Sanctifier, he wont be able to make 500whp and matching torque on a pump car , safely that is!

hmph wrote:Sanctifier, he wont be able to make 500whp and matching torque on a pump car, safely.
^ ^ ^ Hi padna, how yuh goin'. Yup IMHO he can... with complete reliability too.
See Option #1 and Option #2 below...

From Mitsu power...
sayc... will it stand up to the abuse of 500 hp ?... Don't know for sure. S-AYC is not as strong as
rear LSD of RS & GT, so I wouldn't take the chance. Don't want to find out the hard way.

MR for its handeling or RS for its weight reduction ??...
Sanctifier wrote:"Less Weight" = Better Acceleration... "Less Weight" helps "Handling" too.
IMHO "Handling" (and "Stopping") are always more important than "Acceleration."

The MOST important part for better "Handling" in an Evo is the Front Helical LSD.
Front helical LSD (MR, RS & GT) = LESS Understeer = Sharper "Turn-in".
I would choose E9 GT... LESS weight (No S-AYC)... + Front LSD + A/C + Bilstein shocks.

6 speed or 5 speed ?... USA 2nrs find 6-speed SLOWER in ¼-mile. 5-speed is STRONGER too.

mivec 4g63 better or the non mivec 63 ?... Mivec 4G63 gives BETTER performance
... but both may be difficult to tune locally; so IMHO buy an email ECU Reflash.
I would buy a 3-month subscription for $600 US. Link--> Mellon Tuning.
Sanctifier wrote:BTW ECUTech = $675 US per reflash... MUCH more expensive.
Foreign tuner in your garage 24/7. Problem solved in both cases.

start on fq 320 - 360 base ... and all i my need is cople of mods and presto 500...
dont rule out fq because you are get for 180K tt and up...
obeiron wrote:most of the additional parts on the FQ 320, 340 etc would need to be replaced

AFAIK obeiron is correct. It may be CHEAPER to buy a lesser model and tune that.

Mitsu power your choice is... 500 WHP and 500 WTQ.
Sanctifier wrote:I suggest a 2.3 stroker in an E9 GT (with EvoGREEN or EvoRED turbo) because so far a 2.0
litre can't produce 500 WHP AND 500 WTQ at the same time. For the time being only a stroker
can do that. You have to buy forged internals anyway... the only extra cost is a 4G64 crank.

Sanctifier, i know of a certain IX GT with parts that can make cloe to 500whp for sale!!!

it is possible to make 500whp on pump but i wont trust it with our "irregular" good gas supply.

^ ^ ^ If the price is right, go for it.
But remember "Close to" = "Not quite" = 2nd place....

BTW our local "swill" is still PLENTY better than California's "pee water."
In any case, run a Water-Meth kit for added insurance too. No biggie.

it over priced ...way over priced and that is too much maintenance, etc.

This may sound crazy...but what about getting the Mivec Turbo (9 MR) Evo and increase the displacement on the block. To maybe a 2.2L or something...i'm sure this upgrade will assist in reaching the 500 WHP mark Mitsu power. I mean it's worth a try...that's just my opinion.

Posted: August 23rd, 2008, 6:52 pm
by Sanctifier
^ ^ ^ I totally agree. That is exactly what I posted above...
but E9 MR is too heavy (S-AYC) and SLOWER than E9 GT, especially the 6-speed.
575 WHP or more is possible with EvoRED tubo on Mivec 4G63.

BTW a 2.2L = $$$$. ($6,000 US +) A 2.3 is MUCH cheaper (< $3,000 US.)
You can't rev a 2.3 as high as a 2.0 or 2.2 but IMHO I think high WTQ is more useful than high
RPM for street/Solodex use... and you could always fiddle with final drive ratio to compensate.
