CS3 Transmission Malfunction

Postby shawndz209 » September 2nd, 2013, 12:35 pm

Hi Guys..i'm hoping someone can help me out here....i have a cs3 and while on the highway i was driving at about 100kmh and all of a sudden i lost power to the car and it only rev'd off when i mashed the gas...when i pulled aside, my radiator coolant leaked out...stranger enough...when i filled up the radiator it didnt show any signs of leaks. Anyways, the N on the dash was blinking once per second and no gears going in. One place said 12000 to rebuild the transmission and the foreign used ones going for like 7500. I'm not a car person but I do my regular servicing. I have had pretty bad luck with all sorts of crazy mechanics and I really dont have the cash to be trying this and that....could anyone shed some light on the situation for me? I never had any problems with the transmission like it jerking or any noise, however when I sent it to a transmission guy to check because i though the gears took to long to engage (from park to drive or reverse), he informed me that with this type of transmission it usually take a second or two for it to engage. Other than that, I have never had a problem with the transmission to say. about two weeks ago, coming down the highway, my radiator cracked and I had it replaced which cost me almost 1800, and then my compressor went bad and now this. Just my luck! Any help would be really appreciated at this point! :)

The blinking neutral light alone coupled with the gears not engaging means your transmission has given up. It will need to be rebuilt. Rebuilding is better than purchasing a foreign used. With a foreign used, you don't know what you're getting but when you rebuild, you know its been done so with new parts etc and you get warranty on the work done.

There are a couple places in Aranguez you can check/call.

Do a search on the forum and you will find a lot of information regarding the CVT transmission.

Na, don't know why the coolant leaked out. It could be that the transmission heated up so much that is caused tremendous back pressure in the cooling system and hence the coolant leaked out.

$14,000 to rebuild a CVT is mad man price. You can get it done for half that price. Call Jenton's Transmission Specialist on Aranguez Main Road at 675-0248.
There is also a transmission man that goes by the name 'Flash'. And 'Jai' in Aranguez. Don't have numbers for the other two.

once the neutral light comes on that means the transmission has gone in fail safe. in this case the chian in the transmission has burst. I had this problem with my cs3 already and I got it rebuild for 5 thousand dollars and it making 2 years and no problems call this number 354-5942

I also have a problem with my transmission the reverse gear is going in rough especially when i now start up, however when the transmission heats up the gears going in better not as smooth as i would like it to but better. I have no other problems with any other gears. Anyone have an idea what might be causing that and if it fixable. No is not mounts i checked that already. Thanks

Change the oil in the transmission. ASAP.
Do a flush as well. Not just a drain and refill.

The CVT transmission is not chain driven. Rather, it is driven by a belt.
When the car stops moving completely and there are no outputs or responses to gear changes/inputs, that's the when the belt has snapped. You usually hear the snap while driving to indicate that the belt has burst.

hmm.. i've actually been having the issue for quite some time and i went to Federal in south and the did the complete flush, transmission oil was clean and nice but i was still feeling the rough gear change. I really don't understand how come it changing better when the tranny hot. Idk if there are like seals or anything like that could be causing the issue.

I have had this same problem and couldn't find a solution. It sort of stopped on it's own. Not saying that you will have the same good fortunes but take it to another transmission specialist. Go down Aranguez. have about 3 really good transmission men there,

Just posting the feed back i got so far from the transmission specialist.
I explained the situation to him, he check it out and said he isn't noticing anything wrong with the transmission. He did say however that the CVT in the CS3 are very very sensitive and that i should do a service on the throttle body because if it's not functioning properly it could cause the idle to increase and of course the gears to go in rough. So i'm going to do that the report back. 0X

The belt in your transmission is hanging on threads. With more driving or especially if you accelerate suddenly and really get down on that peddle, it will snap!
You need it rebuilt. 12K is a mad man price. Ridiculous!
There are a lot more reputable places that do the rebuild for half that price and you get warranty. Check Jenton's Transmission Specialists on Aranguez Main Road. Have about three good transmission men down Aranguez.

Yes, I have, but the the car was driving normally. Only at standstill I would have an idling issue.

Carry it by Jentons or some other transmission specialist around one time. Transmission is failing.
