had a day to do nothing so decided to do 4g18 crank seal CHANGE and water pump inspection.
I CHANGED CRANK SEAL AND CAM SEAL ALREADY THIS YEAR BUT I HAD A MECHANIC DO IT AND WELL..... JUST SAY I DONT TRUST MECHANICS.........I DIM.... DO IT MYSELF
first u have remove the power steering\ ac belt , there is a tensioner bolt to unloose to to allow play on the power steering pump to be able to slide the belt out. same goes wit the alternator belt , the tensioner bolt is located on top the alternator. loosen that and the belt comes free.
take off the cam plastic cover held on by some 10 bolts.
jack up the car and remove right side wheel. u should be able to see the crank pulley facing u. now this bolt is to loosen ANTICLOCKWISE which is the normal way to loose a bolt anyways becuase certain cars u have to tighten the bolt to loosen it....... i think honda engines is like that,
this crank bolt is not that easy to remove but i got a air air to remove which made the work totally easy .
once you remove the crank pulley ull see the crank gear and the timing belt
u have to remove the plastic guard that protects the belt from grime and dust 3 10bolts.
BEFORE REMOVING THE BELT I HAD TO MARK THE BELT POSITION ON THE CAM GEAR WIT A WHITE MARKER IF U FAIL TO DO THIS U WILL !!!! MESS UP THE TIMING OF THE CAMS AND CRANK BASICALLY TOTALLY YOUR ENGINE.
once removed u have to slacken the tensioner pulley and lock it in place to remove the belt.
THE crank gear was rusted shut on the crank so had to gently tap the gear NOT IN THE GEAR SIDE , and wd40 and it slipped out.
to remove the crank seal without damaging the metal area.... i took a screw and screwed it on the seal then used a pliers to pull the screw and the seal popped out.
the new seals looks like this....
placing back the seal was a matter of patience and was knocked back in evenly wit a 28 socket to give the even install.
decided the check my water pump becuase i was getting a slight leak under it....
u have to remove the entire tensioner pulley to get to the bolts on the pump.
there are 6 10 bolts around the pump once taken out the pumps comes off easy....
NOTE DRAIN YOUR RADIATOR FIRST BUT A LOT WILL STILL FLOW OUT THAT WAS IN THE BLOCK
TO MY SURPRISE NO WONDER MEN ALWAYS SAY CHANGE YOUR WATER PUMP EVERY 100K... AS U CAN SEE FROM THE PICTS ....THIS ENGINE WAS DOING 137K.
SO i figure out like the seal on the pump was bad cause it has a hole that only leaks whent he pump is bad.... and i guess no amount of distilled water coolant redline wetter or prestone can prevent rust.......
decided to change it and wasnt hard to find brand new...
