boost problems 4g63t

Postby MIVEC95 » August 25th, 2009, 9:03 pm

i have a stock tdo5 16g turbo , internal wastegate, i changed the intake to the turbo and did over a piece of the intercooler piping , when i'm driving on any gear , as soon as i pass 5000 rpm the boost rises together with the rpm , i have it set at 10psi , by the time i hit redline , i'm at 18psi , i changed my wastegate to an external and i'm getting the same problem , i have no vacuum leak neither boost , we put the boost gauge on the wastegate line and the wastegate is seeing the pressure , we moved the boost nipple from the piping and put it on the intake manifold and still same problem , can anyone help a.s.a.p , i need my car working before saturday night

Wastegate installed properly?

Wastegate large enough?

Did you have a boost controller installed prior to upgrading? Possibly some line not setup correctly.

manual or EBC?

how did you route/eliminate the internal wastegate - completely blanked or running with the external? pics of line setup between turbo/WG/Controller?
best bet from my experience was to either run no line on IWG or eliminate it all together. follow links below as well with regard to adjusting MBC upward to accomodate.

for starters - may be combination of spike/creep:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/article ... creep.html

if you've not already done it:
http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

and this may help to:
http://www.4g61t.org/forum/viewtopic.ph ... oost+creep

bottom line - make sure your setup allows for fuel/ingition correction for boost levels higher than 10psi (maybe 14psi or so) including suitable injectors, DP sizing, airflow, timing, etc - do you have management and/or is the motor an original setup (EVO, Eclipse, etc)

if i put a external wastegate , and leave it at the stock pressure spring , 7 psi , and use a controller to raise boost , will that work ? as it is now , if i adjust the external wastegate tighter i am still getting creep , i have no leaks ,checked everything

I would think to eliminate the boost controller and run the line back normally.

take a drive and see...

Try that first option - thought you were in fact doing that. you didnt comment on what you've done with the int WG.

if that fails, I 2nd MISHI's point - eliminate the MBC and use the ext WG to adjust boost levels.

we cannot adjust the wastegate to adjust boost , it creeps, however if i have the wastegate slack all the way off, the boost controller can control it properly , so i'll run it like that

check your lines (line - MBC to WG, etc). if there's a kink, it will creep like that. how do i know? i had the same problem. my intake pipe was causing a slight kink. straightened out the hose. ta da.
