2009 Toyota Vigo/Hilux 3.0 Tyrbo diesel

Postby Ben_spanna » June 18th, 2022, 11:21 pm

So these Vigo/Hilux that were offered my Maska limited with the 3.0 diesel, around (TCJ registration models).
Any known issues with them? Any thing if I’m looking at one I should check or be aware of that may be common problems?
Any advice is appreciated.

TCJ would be 2008-ish

1) those vans came with EGR, so if it wasnt serviced and properly decarbonized, that may be one item to look at.

2) pre-2010 models came with copper injectors washers, they are known to break down and end up in the sump and clog the oil pick up.
I know about 3 ppl this happened to and they all lost their engines.
This washer is now sold as the upgraded silver one.

3) take a look at the tranny fluid, see how dark it is, this may give some insight into how well it was maintained

4) test the 4wd engagement to 4H and 4L
There shouldnt be any grating to engage.

Other than that, expect usual wear on a vehicle thats 14years old now.

Hope this helps

Look at the state of the fluids; especially the ones that are more difficult to change like brakes, power steering and coolant.

Request to see the vehicle when it is cold; this way you can see what comes out the tailpipe (any blue smoke or white smoke)when you cold start it and you can listen for any off beat idle or loud knocking sounds. Symptoms are more difficult to observe when the vehicle is warm or at operating temperature.

Any mileage over 150 000kms means the timing belt and water pump ought to have been replaced.

Observe the wear on the brake rotors and tyres

Vehicle has to be in neutral (if it is an auto) for 4wd gear selector to engage properly
