Spike in Hilux Diesel Injection Problems!

Over the last 5 weeks or so I have had a unusual increase in number of customers facing performance issues associated with diesel injection in the Hilux/Vigo.
Thus far the common denominator in those that I have dealt with seems to be the quality of the diesel fuel.
Many have come looking for injectors and diesel pumps (which are high cost items).
I recommend that immediately owner observe a problem, quickly remove diesel pump and service the solenoid which controls the flow rate to the injectors. If you wait too long the pump may be damaged as well as the injector nozzle pin would stick.
Hope this helps, also be wary of diesel 'specialists' who are prone to really high service costs.
...Something seems to have gone terribly wrong with the quality of diesel recently.

Call Tank and Fuel or a local NP/Trinpet and buy Fuel Medic for your diesel. It is a product that actually works. I use it with every fill up for this exact reason.

The Hilux problems is it the Local TTTL or Vigo's cumming from other dealers Rampersad, MASKA or Japan Motors ?

Had a Talk with TTTL recently and they said that the Toyota Hilux Team from away (Japan or Thai ) came down tested our Diesel to adjust the pump and common rail on the 2.5 and 3.0 engines.

I have encountered many thus far... remove fuel tank, clean fuel bowl and strainer renew fuel and run and injector cleaner with canister.. rare cases i had to remove suction control valve on pump due to vehicle not starting.

The amount of diesel unit owners who just nervous with the kinds of number some diesel specialist throwing out is crazy.
What is happening is that owners so afraid, that they are taking too long to clean/service the gummy build-up which eventually leads to pump and injector failure.
Unfortunately,in our country the retailers seem uncommitted to consistency of standards for fuel.
Sales of treatments must be high because people are led to believe that this will regularize diesel quality.........this infact isn't true.

I advise my customers against treatments and rather regular sedimenter bleeding and oem filters...

Agreed!
Oh,btw bad diesel and colder time of year when 'dew point' becomes an issue really creates havoc locally.
The annual trouble period is Nov into Mar. of following year (my records indicate).

During one of my last visits to TTTL, I did notice at least three Hilux owners dealing with issues relating to diesel quality. They were given samples of the diesel removed from their vehicles. The samples were about one third sludge. One of these vehicles was actually about a month old and the driver stated that he only filled up at a specific gas station in his area.

You can protect your fuel system by using Liqui Moly Super Diesel Additive.

I have heard of the Liqui Moly product and quite willingly accept that the product is very good.
What I have notice however is that the actual quality of the diesel at the pump is so bad that within one fill up a vehicle that was running perfectly fine goes into a 'tail-spin'.
Clearly the level of contaminants which pops up in local supplies from time to time is so bad that additives are just unable to bring the fuel back inline with what the filters, pumps and injectors are designed to tolerate.

So true,
I have been to garages where the technicians have containers with diesel that was emptied from fuel tanks and you can actually see the amount of contaminants in the diesel.
We recommend that you do a diesel purge on your fuel system to get rid of the contaminants that may be present in the system. For more info check out http://liquimolytt.com/index.php/products/work-shop-pro-line/item/119-diesel-purge

Apparently TTTL making a killing with this issue.
Owners aint following this thread and are falling into a real $$$$$ trap.
A simple truth you may want to follow-up on ---The 1kd and 2 kd injectors are serviceable/repairable.Additionally,if caught in time the pumps can be serviced.
Please don't allow individuals to take you into the fear zone.

Well more money to be made by service people and parts people. ..a lot of people buy a diesel not knowing how sensitive modern diesel fuel systems are too dirt and water contamination. I advise people if they don't have a mechanical bone in their body. ... Get a gasoline powered vehicle
Anyway ..on the diesel matter. ... Recently I have observed an increase in the amount of contaminants that I drain out of my sedimentor. The dirt is very fine and takes almost three days to settle out; there is also a lot more free water and some slimy looking dirt.
I have changed my first fuel filter at 18000km... Planning on pushing the servicing interval to 35000km... filters do get more efficient the dirtier they get and the first one didn't look so bad

As for treatments I use whatever I wanted to test
Redline 85 plus. .. I'm still a bit iffy on this because it claims to disperse water
PS Diesel kleen.... Same issue just described as water solublizer
Penray diesel fuel prep.... its mostly kerosene and an injector cleaner
Amsoil cetane booster.... This makes starting a bit easier and quiets the engine a little; runs smother as well.
Amsoil injector cleaner... When I'm feeling for a change of pace.
Still have a can of liqui moly diesel purge but that will probably get used at 50000km.
My main reasons for using additives are to quiet the diesel down and lubricate the fuel pump.
Speaking of lubrication and fuel cleanliness...If and when we get ulsd ....for all those who believe the fuel will be cleaner and they will have less problems think again. ULSD is worse at lubricating the fuel pump than LSD so unless they add something to replace the loss of lubrication provided by the Sulphur... expect your fuel pump to wear out faster. The fuel is cleaner. ... environmentally cleaner that is. .. Less Sulphur in the fuel means less sulphuric acid formed after combustion.
You don't have to think about any of this with a GAS.
But I have a Diesel :-(
