fuel problems when cornering hard

Hey guys,

I'm having a weird problem aith my ae101 where if I corner hard when my fuel gauge is at quarter tank or lower my engine dies like if its starved for fuel. This does not happen at all if i'm driving straight or take my time cornering. I'm wondering does the fuel pump have a hose or something to reach the bottom of the tank that might be missing? What are the possible causes of this problem :?:

If it dies under those conditions, then the pump is either shifting out of the gasoline, or the gasoline is sloshing about too much and is nowhere near the pump inlet. Could also be the float signalling that there is no gas in the car causing it to cut off

I have a similair problem with my B14. recently changed engine. Changed fuel pump and fuel filter but still experience the same problem when fuel reaches under half tank. Problem is worsened if I use A/C

yur problem is more than likely a defective float or sending unit on the internal fuel pump, i had the same problem with my AE110.

Easiest solution was just to change it out and i upgraded one time since i needed my fuel for my application anyways.

hope it helps.

locorolla's and anthonemorris's replies make sense.

Maybe the sending unit is bad (float, potentiometer, etc) and tells you the tank is quarter, when it is almost empty. With a vehicle having some age and everyday riding on our roads with corners, bumps, potholes etc., there is lot of movement with the sending unit, as the gasoline sloshes around. It is firstly a mechanical thing. So you could be getting a wrong tank level indication because of wear etc.
Of course, if you are going in the tank to check the sending unit, then it will be wise to check the pump's intake. Some pumps are fitted with a micro-filter in the intake, which can lower the reach to the tank's bottom. If it drops out then with a low gasoline level in the tank, it will be losing suction, hence discharge hydraulic pressure…………………….no supply to the engine's fuel system.
Do the check.
Peace.
RR.

Thx for the replies guys, I'll try replacing both the pump and sending unit at the end of the month and let you know how it goes.

Yeah, pump shifting. Had that problem with the bimmer on the rivulet road around the roundabout. Had to signal people to overtake till the car starts back for itself.
