This has been answered before but to make life easy. .. yes this is what is done at TTTL. I do not like this service practise and feel they should change the filter every oil change especially the first one as it tends to have the most wear material from being broken in as you drive.
I might follow their service routine if they still had that made in japan filter but they have the made in Thailand filter. .. Same number. .. different element

well d 3L engine is a much powerfully engine than the 2.5L higher oil pressure plus for some reason these engine need special care otherwise will damage very fast but most of the time is ill treatment oil not changing on time and stuff.Toyota uses castrol vecton oil aka castrol CRB.
U should use d original filter cuz it is much stronger and it goes to 10k other outside filters go to 5k and will not take the pressure and it will crumble costing u more money

Not sure about the higher oil pressures as I believe the engines use the same oil pump. .. However there are higher turbo pressures which means higher temperatures.
Now my old man has used Purolator for 120000kms and continues to use them to this day but he has the 2.5. I also don't like the new made in Thailand toyota filters....it just feels cheaper than the made in japan version.

toyota oem oil filter stands up well, wrking there 5 yrs and goin and never saw a oil filter fail, had a customer once didnt realize she had to change oil or so she said and from 20k she went straight to 80k no service, engine sludged but oil filter stood up and did not cause restriction. if you wana change it at the 5k mark its no prob you can jus request it at the counter wen goin for service if it satisfies your mind but it is rated for 10k.

The made in Thailand filters are nowhere near what the made in japan filters were.
Same part #. Honestly don't like the new filter design in my vehicle for 10000kms
