yo tuners I have a corolla with a 5a-fe and the car was park up for jus alittle over a month now when I start it the idle up for the automatic choke doesn't come on when it cold although it start good and doesn t cut off but when it reach operating temperature and u have it in park or neutral it idles up very high, it passes the 1 mark on the tach and settles at the 2nd mark after the 1. when I have it in drive it settles jus below the 1 on the mark under it. there r no check engine lights that come on. does anyone have any ideas whats wrong ??

Did you ensure the throttle linkage hadn't seized slightly open since the car hadn't been used for a while?
If it was already tuned right before, don't start adjusting screws before you check that. The idle screw didn't adjust itself.
Clean the butterfly valve, auto choke and linkages with Bars so it gets lubricant one time and make sure the throttle cable moves nice and smooth. If it still can't close properly there are extra springs you can get in many auto parts stores.

had similar "racing" issue, and rough idle. cleaned up with Bars and now my car idles at 900 rpm in park/neutral and about 500-700 in gear. will try to clean up pcv and adjust distributor timing (although distributor timing not exactly necessary).

Ooh. Update. I recently had a high idle issue, but only when I use the a/c. When it cycles off, the idle races. It's as if the compressor cycled off but the step up stayed open.
It turns out I never cleaned my a/c step up. A little electronic cleaner spray solved that. I cleaned my idle speed valve, pcv valve and afm one time, and reinstalled the oil catch can, which I didn't put in after the rebuild.

Dunno meng, I'm not a mechanic, I'm just drawing on my DIY experiences.
My advice however, was to not adjust anything before you clean all the moving parts and electrical connections to ensure that they're working as they were before you parked the car, since the car is incapable of adjusting itself.
Ensure there are no blockages and that throttle etc. is moving freely (and more importantly, closing fully). If it's partially open, it would act like your foot is on the gas (which may be the reason your auto-choke isn't engaging).
Clean your a/c idle-up module as well. Mine had become gummed up over the years since I'd never cleaned it before, so it wasn't closing properly and causing the idle to race when the compressor cycled off.

So apparently, the person I bought my corolla from has the distributor advanced. Haven't had the time to re-adjust to make sure that the idle issue is the distributor, as I've cleaned TB, it closes fully, all valves clean. Will let u knw how it goes. Car running a bit rich at the moment, and needs general tuning and servicing. Will let u know how everything goes after month end servicing

has anyone actually checked the step up motor at the bottom of the throttle body? apparently mine is either clogged or needs changing.
