well if my math serves me correct that would work out to roughly tt 250, 000 or so and if u add stealership profit margins and tax u looking at around golf gti range...350,000....but i guess they will market it as direct competition which kinda makes a little sense...

The GT 86 is available on the market for sale in T&T. There two for sale on Tradecarview.com and can be shipped here once purchased. You will be looking at around US$42K just for the car...

We may have to wait just a lil bit longer for the prices to drop...

This is a 2012 June model doing 15Kms. Ro-Ro from Japan.
The car price is US$40,730 plus about US$1,500 for shipping,
If I bring this car from Japan for myself, it will cost me TT$451,000 without insurance.
The cheapest on the net is about US$39,500, so TT$450,000 is about it.
Then obviously when you spend money in those quantities, go for the new one at TTL.

The American Automotive media is saying that the car is not about speed, but drive quality, which if you will agree with me, you really cannot have much of that in sweet ol' T&T...........albeit our traffic situation.
While a Subaru S-GT, may not have the "drive quality" of the GT86, and of course the rank, I am sure the turbo will give you a kick-in-the-pants on the Hochoy that the GT 86 will not give.......................for fewer dollars.
Regards,
RR.

It looks like the prayers of Toyota GT86 fans are about to be answered, as the Japanese carmaker is reportedly preparing a power increase for its popular RWD coupe.

The chief engineer for the GT86 project, Tetsuya Tada, has told Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald that his team is considering ways of increasing the coupe’s performance, one of which will definitely make it to production from 2015, when the GT86 will get its mid-life facelift.

"I hope to make an engine upgrade at least one time with this car. We have already tried all possibilities and there are several types of 86 prototypes at the Toyota proving ground now; one is a turbocharger, one is bigger displacement and the other is a special hybrid system," Tada said. He added that at the moment, all possibilities are being considered.

No other details were given, but the publication cites inside sources saying the most likely option is an increase in displacement. According to these sources, the 2.0-liter boxer engine would be increased to 2.5-liters, with power to be boosted from 147 kW (197hp) to approximately 190 kW (255hp).

The increase in displacement would be preferred to the hybrid solution because of the lower weight. However, both the turbo and the hybrid may find their way on future GT86 versions. Tada also confirmed that he is already developing the second-generation GT86 and hinted that the new car could drop the boxer engine in favor of a turbocharged inline-four unit. Could this mean that Subaru will be dropped from the project? We'll just have to wait and see.

2022 Toyota GR 86 Arrives In December Priced From $27,700
BY Michael Gauthier | Posted on October 27, 2021 45

We tested the 2022 Toyota GR 86 earlier this year and now the company has announced pricing will start at $27,700.

That’s great news as the model costs a mere $640 more than its predecessor, despite featuring a more powerful engine, an upgraded interior and modern driver assistance systems.

Set to arrive at U.S. dealerships in December, the 2022 GR 86 is available in two trims and the entry-level model features a stylish exterior with LED lighting units, a dual exhaust system and 17-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find power side mirrors and a remote keyless entry system.

Driven: The 2022 Toyota GR 86 Packs A Stronger Punch And Looks Good Doing It

The interior was one of the weakest aspects of the old 86, but that’s no longer the case as the 2022 model comes standard with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment system that no longer feels like it was sourced from the Crutchfield catalog.

While it’s not the most advanced infotainment system in the world, it features voice recognition technology as well as wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Customers can also get Remote Connect and Safety Connect subscriptions, which allow for remote starting and locking/unlocking as well as automatic collision notification and stolen vehicle recovery assistance.

Putting the technology aside, the entry-level model features standard front sport seats and a folding rear seat that allows the car to haul a full set of four spare tires when lowered. Other highlights include a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a push-button ignition, and power windows and locks. They’re joined by a leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic steering wheel, cruise control and a six-speaker audio system.

Moving up to the $30,300 GR 86 Premium rewards buyers with a duckbill rear spoiler and larger 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

The range-topper is also more luxurious as the cabin features heated front sport seats with perforated UltraSuede upholstery and leather bolsters. Other highlights include aluminum pedals, contrast stitching and an upgraded eight-speaker audio system.

Regardless of which trim is selected, all GR 86s are equipped with an all-new 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that features a new intake and exhaust as well as a larger displacement. Thanks to these changes, it develops 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque which is an improvement of 23 hp (17 kW / 23 PS) and 28 lb-ft (38 Nm).

Besides being more powerful, the engine produces its peak torque far earlier than before as it arrives at 3,700 rpm instead of 6,600 rpm. It’s connected to an improved six-speed manual transmission, which offers smoother and more rewarding shifts. The manual is also quicker than before as the dash to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 6.1 seconds, an improvement of 0.9 seconds.

While the manual is great, most buyers will likely opt for the six-speed automatic that costs $1,500 and is available on both trims. The gearbox might not appeal to enthusiasts, but it’s better than before as it has been outfitted with a new torque converter, additional clutch discs and revised programming. 60 mph (96 km/h) comes in 6.6 seconds, which doesn’t sound overly impressive until you remember the old model required 8 seconds to accomplish the same task.

Speaking of the automatic, it comes with an assortment of driver assistance systems including Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management and Lane Departure Warning. They’re joined by Lead Vehicle Start Alert and High Beam Assist.

Lastly, as an added bonus, buyers will receive a 1-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association. This provides them access to a complimentary high performance driving event as well as discounted admission to other NASA-sanctioned events.

While that’s the GR 86 in a nutshell, Toyota is embracing customization as the company plans to offer an assortment of Gazoo Racing accessories. Among the highlights are a cat-back exhaust system, a cold air intake and performance stabilizer bars. Customers can also opt for a quick shift kit for the manual as well as 17-inch aluminum wheels with a bronze finish.
Note: Prices exclude a $1,025 destination fee

GR 86 6 Sp MT $27,700. GR 86 6Sp AT $29,200. GR 86Premium 6 Sp MT 30,300. GR 86 Premium 6 Sp AT $31,800.
