Steering column movement

Its a 2007 nze141g Fielder with electronic power steering
I noticed that when i rock the steering side to side i am hearing a knocking (sound like worn inner rack ends)
and from the engine bay I noticed the steering column moving where it bolts to the frame.
One diagnosis is to replace rubber bushings between the column and frame.

Whats your take on this?

wow...what would've caused that I've no clue...those not supposed to get like that, but if you getting the rubbers to buy, then there's no harm in trying it. Has anyone interfered with the rack at all before?

Inspect the bolts first to make sure they haven't run loose before you go buying bushings you don't need tho.

Spoke to someone today, he said its common to the corollas and it can be fixed and its not the rubbers there's some adjustments to make on the column
So next week I'll have it repaired.

hi good day .we have a 2006 toyota fielder and there is the same problem with the steering rack,we carried it by laughlin and de gannes and what they said was that maybe someone tampered or interfered with the steering rack, causing the whole inside to be damaged and totally worn out.so can you please send me the information on the person who did this for you please and thanks or what was the best possible solution.

this is one of the only flaws in these 121 models, the steering rack is a manual rack and over time the grease dries up in the rack and causes the teflon bushing to wear premature, i never tried taking one to machine a new teflon bushing for fear of it having steering to stiff. these racks have to overhaul kits available, only either f/u or new brand, when you get one my advise is to remove the preload adjusting bolt and pack some of the castrol pyroplex blue grease...make sure and have a traing personel do this so as to get the preload back to specs.
