Shouldn't be too bad once it was serviced regularly and is in good shape.

1kd engine?

Yes its the 1kd 3.0 engine.

Is that Good or Bad?

1kd is the same engine as the hilux/vigo eh, the one that known to have turbo and injector failures.

1kz is the prado engine, bulletproof engine.

Some prados came either gas 2.7 4cyl, gas v6, 1kd, 1kz so you need to check which is it

Yup ... not too many of that around any more ...

Why not look at 90 or 95 series with a 1kz? Parts will be easier.

What model specifically?

1kd and 1kz diesel engines have been good.

1gd (2.8L new diesel engine) with DPF sensors seems problematic.

BTW I needed a seal 90316-72001 for my kz120 front wheel bearing. I couldn't source it locally and ended up buying it off Ebay. Not even the dealership had it.

Yup its a local.

Am still weighing the pros and cons of buying one I saw.

Do you know or have any experience with putting CNG in one?

Thinking about going that way too as it’s a cleaner burning fuel

No I don't.

Personally I wouldn't go down that road.

Just a quick update from my end.

2005 kzj120 series doing approx 185 000km (basically same engine except for the intercooler as the kzj90 series)

Was getting a brief but loud engine knock on cold start ups for approx 3-5 seconds. Was told it was the injectors, the oil filter clog, the oil strainer clogged etc. Before pumping money into it, I decided to do a bit of research.

It turned out to be the timing control valve 23010-67010 located at the bottom of the injector pump. The firm was out of stock so I bought it online and got it replaced.

Interesting to note was this was also replaced on my former kzj90 according to the service history.
