The Supra vs Skyline rivalry is back! LF-A vs R35 GTR! AMEN!

Postby TESTED performance » May 16th, 2010, 1:19 am

Toyota have outdone themselves in every aspect with the LF-A (especially the price)
So how is it stacking up to the nissan R35 GTR? Quite interestingly in my opinion. The linked web page sums it up with perfection and the You Tube video of the two cars in a quartermile battle puts icing on the cake.

http://www.autorivals.net/supercars/201 ... 010gtr.htm

The lexus is too expensive but it deserves to be at least twice or maybe even three times as expensive as the GTR because it has been produced at a level of overall refinement and aesthetic excellence that quite frankly makes the GTR look like a car that is 10 years older when compared to the LFA.
I love the rivalry of these two cars even more than the supra vs skyline rivalry of times gone by and I'll explain.
The LFA boasts a 4.8L V10 engine which makes around 550 horse power
The GTR has less displacement and cylinders boasting a 3.8L V6 that outputs around 480 horse power. The interesting part comes when you look at the torque figures. Published specs suggest that even with less displacement the GTR is better by 80 pound force ft of torque. For those who don't know nissan were a bit conservative in the published engine output of the skyline and I'm willing to bet that the GTR is generally better than the LFA in terms of torque by closer to 100 pound force ft. This means that the GTR has ridiculously better raw accelerating pulling power whereas the LFA is able to multiply the available torque significantly more than the GTR resulting in high power outputs. This makes for a truly interesting situation in the real world as everyone is beginning to see.
The GTR is a benchmark go fast car with a sense of style and engineering that is basically purpose oriented. The LFA is a go fast car which also boasts purpose built styling and engineering however the lexus isn't just at another level it's light years ahead in terms of overall refinement and its exotic features appeal to your senses on a level that leaves the GTR horribly outclassed.
Just my $0.02

toyota didnt built the lfa to achieve the most amount of sales for a super car,,but to show the world and it competitors tht toyota can built an astonishing n extremely fast, stylish and luxurious super car and that it has the potential to dominate any market it enters..the lfa intentions was to boost toyota's image and it surely did...the price alone speaks for itself,,,they dont want the average joe drivin around it..its all about CLASS

i dunno if the ft-86 project is still on,,,tht car would be the affordable sports car hopefully lol

Toyota has no plans to make an affordable sports car the whole sports car division is over to lexus (ie F line ,LF-A, IS-F, FT-86). Toyota only plans to build Econoboxes and sedans. :( :( :(

not really nipples. This toyota recall has become a distraction to a project that toyota CEO was working on called Gazoo Racing. look it up. They have been slated by the new CEO Mr. Toyoda to replace TRD in a big way.

^^ Yup...Toyota owns Yamaha...this is where they got their VVTL-i tech from. But where is it stated that the GT-R motor is built by Ford??? It's a stroked version of the VQ36 that has evolved from Nissan's VQ engine platform

Given the disparity in price they should've used the Spec-V GT-R in the comparison

I know Toyota owns a minority share in Yamaha not outright like Lexus, Scion or even a majority share like Daihatsu.

Nissan's VR wasn't built by Ford as you stated, simply a more race oriented version of the VQ.

GTR>LFA in every applicable sense unless you want a small piece of history or bragging rights which would suggest you don't drive the expensive heap of metal and circuit board.

Oh, Yamaha builds heads for MANY auto makers.

Regardless of who makes what the original Supra>LFA.

Toyota of late has become like the ole' Detroit car makers of the previous century and now it's biteing them in the arse.

"Regardless of who makes what the original Supra>LFA."

that is a matter of opinion. the supra is more tunable/aftermaket support, has cult status, that doesn't necessarily mean it's better. both cars are legendary in their own way. leading tech for their time

so he does that and changes his username? *sigh*

IMO there is no rivalry, two different genres of car, one an affordable semi-supercar with heaps of aftermarket support coming it's way which puts the hurting on more expensive options, the other a high priced exotic out of the range of most, that gives sweet n/a performance in keeping with it's price, the likelihood of seeing both as rivals is nil except in the highest league of enthusiasts, unlike the similarly priced Skylines and Supras of the past

IMO (that's all it is on a forum) the GTR delivers bang for buck. As in the link you posted the LFA betters the GTR's performance in all aspects...but only marginally and for the price I (as if I can afford either ) would prefer to live with that small margin of inadequacy and spend the balance on mods to personalise the GTR.
