OK so i chose the beams.

Will post pics of the swap stuff later. Will need some 5x114 16" rims, you will see why in pics.

Beams 3SGE VVT-i Engine with 5SFE Transmission and Oil Cooler
Toyota Big brakes
Beams Fuel pump (only has a feed line and breather in the setup)
New Mounts
New shocks and springs

Will be installing some good plugs, air filter kit, proper gauges to monitor and trying to get some extractors.

A-1 Superior Tech wrote:Purpose of the swap is to replace the engine but have it moving the car without it feel like its using alot of power and also keeping it looking stock as possible or looking close to stock.

Will be keeping the car instead of selling now as its a very very smooth riding car. Already bought brand new engine mounts, new bushings, new suspension parts, new shocks and springs from toyota, new shock mounts front and back as they carry a special type of bearing on it.

Its more or less a camry project to convert to a street kinda sleeper car.

Parents kinda like some power too, so this should be good.

hmmm...intercooler gonne be a little hard to miss, no GTE

BEAMS redtop...fin

Will clean up engine etc, and will be posting pics of the entire swap.

Will have to make new brackets for this engine to work on the camry as the 5s is mounted up different. Only thing staying the same is the transmission and good thing we put a brand new one :D

car going today to get it bracketed, will take pics of how its done.

Brakes, calipers bolt up on Camry spindle and rotors are basically exact replacement on spindle except bigger lol.

Ok, well engine is in and layed out.

Brakes dont work direct, can work with some modification but will go back and see if i can get an exchange for the ST205 Celica brakes, which are 4 piston also but different line up than the supra/celsior. Looks similar to camry.

Using back the back mount, with little modification, the front mount is destroyed from before, will be using something easier to get but stronger so a custom bracket is being made. Transmission mount stays the same and the mount kinda thingy on top on the pulley side has worked back with a little modification to that bracket as well.

Will get some pics today, better pics.

Just got Celica 4 piston calipers and rotors, these should work up more easily.

Very slight modification needed, more or less, bolting on a plate in the top bolt where the caliper bolts, and have that plate bolt the caliper bolt there leaving the bottom bolt on the caliper original.

When re-using the mounts from a 5sfe, you need to make up a bracket in the back and the top left(facing engine bay from front). Transmission mount can stay as u use back the 5sfe tranny and if you are lucky, you have the LSD ones with the fins and big back part in it like me :D.

The front mount, works back HOWEVER, the stock manifold hits it. To get around this, you use the stock extractors from a 3sge beams engine from an altezza, fits perfecto!

Now just to wire up, put on new shocks and springs, install the brakes, wire up, put on beams fuel pump and test it out!

ok so the rotor cant work bcuz the diameter on the spindle is bigger than the celicas rotor diameter....shux....

but hey! got something else even better that worked bolt for bolt, no modification needed except to rethread the hole in the caliper to match the toyota size bolt!

Well let you all know when the car is back home monday!

Engine sounds sweet!

Wiring THANKS TO KUNTA, alot of you all will know him. THE BOSS

Nice write up on the 3s beams engine, look to hear about performance from you

Posted: May 1st, 2010, 8:53 pm
by TeamH2O
Cant wait to see the performance it has!

ok so it would have been much easier to use the first 4 piston brakes, but i dont like the idea of welding a bracket for brakes.

The rx7 brakes, they work right up, calipers that is, but the rotor, it goes too much inside as the housing is deeper than toyota.

What needs to be done is you will need longer wheel studs, about half inch to inch longer studs and use maximum 1/4 inch washers to space out the housing in the spindle. Then you work up calipers and bolt up and go.

Will be doing this later on, not right now, currently money is low lol.

Going to pick up car now, so performance will be tested

Got it back today but exhaust needs to be done.

Transmission not changing, it goes straight to 3rd on Drive, so after exhaust, tommorow it'll go back to fix that problem and then i can check it out. X Cable not going full throttle either so that has to adjust.

But the damn thing swinging rpm like WOW on 1st     BIG BIG BIG BIG DIFFERENCE from teh 2.2 5S!

Might have a long wait until transmission is properly wired up.

Extractor manifold is getting a custom downpipe for some performance, cat. has to be removed as its clogged. From there it will get 2.25" later on but for now, after the 2.5" downpipe it'll have to stay with the current TWO POINT SOMETHING SMALLER THAN A QUARTER exhaust lol.

Will get it tomorrow and will see how it works with exhaust on L and 2...I fine it was reaching 100km too quick lol

what kind of mod do u did on the mounts any cutting and wielding on the mounts of any big work in detail please planning to swap my 95 camry cause my engine just died. thanks

I'll take some pics of the back mount to show you how it was done. That back one had alot of work to do to it.

The front works back if u use back original 5sfe mount and mount bracket. If using 5sfe tranny, well that mount goes back. The top left on the pully side has to be alterated a bit to work all 3 bolts back.
