Help plz: AE111 Gearbox oil change ?

Postby Krakkle » May 27th, 2008, 2:16 pm

Would like to change the fluid in my AE111 C160 gearbox (a lil self-help thing nah)

Can anyone advise on:
1) Best oil to use? Brand & weight?
2) Technique in refilling the oil? Is it thru the speedo cable attachment location?

Any other pointers?

Thanks.

I use redline MT90 in my ae111 and still do in my zze123, and im realy impressed with it especially if you drive very hard or do solodex. I used to have shifting problems when i used the stock stuff in extreme driving conditions, but with the redline it actually gets better with heat. :) MT90 is 75w90.

REDLINE MT-90
Popular in Nissan, Toyota and Mazda manual transmissions and transaxles as well as other selected applications, this is a 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil that’s slightly heavier than MTL. Provides excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting.

Believe it or not the regular Np gear Oil works pretty well , for everyday as well as roughing it a little . for gearboxes that do light duty work (everyday and some solocross) i'd recommend the mineral oil over the synthetic due to the fact that synthezied oils loose have less of an "oilieness factor " that is to say the rate at which the oil molecules bond to each other to create a film.
:D

Thanks!
I guess I'll hit a "mid-range" compromise with some Mobil1 70-90W Synth. because the car is basically a daily driver to & from work.

BTW how many quarts/liters? and do I fill oil thru the speedo cable hole or is there a dedicated fill point ?
