Want a review on the 1999 AE111 Corolla (Local)

I need some information on this model Corolla, also how much a local one will sell for in very good condition?

I also need a copy of the shop manual for this model Corolla.

Well i drove one for about 10 years and i didnt give me one bit of trouble. I loved it. Routine maintainence and u good to go. Has some great potential to be a great handling car if you into that.

oh and they usually sell for 45-55 or so. Mine was a 1997 and i got 34k for it.

I'm a lil worried bout the timing belt, the car is doing over 135000km and I believe it still has the original belt from factory. I called Toyota but they don't have the belt in stock, any advice on this?

You supposed to change it at 100000km so i agree with you. Call Nassco in barbados they will have it and most of the time when i buy in barbados and ship it here it comes up to less than Toyota TTL. I will look around the net and see if i find one in the states and let u know.

once its the 4afe engine u talking bout the teething on the timing belt is 117

rmspower, any good mechanic worth his salt will change it with no problems...doesn't need to be a Toyota-specific mechanic

Not to sure about that statement about the bekt bursting and causing no damage nick009!! That may be for the wide angle head on a 4AGE engine, most Ae111 came with the 4AFE which is narrow head! Be careful rmspower.

ok thanks. Whats the best thing to do, buy the belt from Toyota or can I get a belt on the outside that is just as good as the original?

Check Automotive supplies limited (625-1396). They have the gates brand of belts, which is very good. Just tell them the type of car or the engine type and they'll get the correct belt for you.

rmspower, one more thing if you are getting a mech to change the timimg belt you might also want to invest in a cylinder head kit for this engine as well since none of the seals would not have been changed and you would not want oil getting where it should not like on the belt or in the plugs etc. it's about TT$400.00 and you can get it where you buy the belt but it's worth doing the work now especially the cam seals, the crank seal and the seals for the plugs.

if u have the money buy an orignal belts because it has metal in it to prevent it from stretching and should last like about 3-4 years without a replacement vs a normal 1 which might las 2-3years

^^^ aren't the original belts just re-stamped Gates belts, at dealer prices?

u get what u pay for when it comes to that stuff...look for a Gates or Sun belt and u good to go for another 100k kms

I'm driving my local ae111 for about 7 months now, and cosign tte's sentiments. I dropped in a 4agze and the car is equipped with 4 wheel disc brakes and TRD dampers and springs. The car is remarkably composed on the road equally at home on the corners and the straights. I'm hoping to get it prepped to try my hand at dex some time this season.
