Water exiting from manifold

Postby powered by ? » May 24th, 2007, 9:57 am

Tuners,
Yesterday i started my car and decided to check under my bonnet, to my surprise i notice water exiting from the manifold near the gasket, My car is a Toyota Starlet Gt, the car never overheat with me, So i removed the Radiator Cap and started to rev the engine at 3000 rpm think that my head gasket possible blown but the water didn`t erupt from the Radiator, Your help would be greatly appriciated. :? :? :?

Ok I just joined this today but may be able to help you, Is the water exiting from the inlet or exhaust manifold? Also does this motor have a water cooled inlet manifold?

water escaping from the exhaust manifold and i don`t know if it has a cooled inlet manifold..

Well the only 2 places that it could be leaking coolant is either from one of the water pipes around the turbo or from between the head and the block, ie head gasket but very unlikely. My guess would be a water hose near the turbo (turbos are usualy water cooled)

How much water and is it coolant that's leaking or normal water? If its a little normal it could just be condensation from combustion and a leaking gasket.

If coolant it could be coolant line somewhere or maybe water pump or even a cracked headgasket.

My mechanic told me that my water pump bad because we can hear the bearing making a loud noise like it shell, but i can`t understand why water would come out from the maniflod?

Yeah it is wierd cos waterpump on your model is no where near exhaust manifold. Again I would say check for water pipes around the turbo area and have a good look at where the head mates up to the block. Also there are other bearings (Cambelt tenisioner/idler,alternator bearing etc) that can make noise other than the waterpump so be carful. If bearing that bad I would expect the pump to be leaking water from the tell tale hole underneath the pump just behind the pulley. Maybe briefly run motor with alternator/waterpump belt off and see if noise goes away, also then you can turn waterpump by hand an see if bearing feels loose or rough, but dont run for long,a few seconds only! Good luck and keep me posted!

downunder,
weekend i replaced the water pump and the noise stopped but not the coolant start to exit from the manifold more so (i guess because the water pump is new and working much better now), the mechanic just drop my manifold and was told that the water is coming from the internals in the turbo. Any idea if my turbo is F@#$ed ?

Um does not sound good, If you are seeing water coming from inside the turbo then it is most likely a crack inside the turbo. The turbo has a water cooled core and I have heard of the core deveploping cracks. This is rare though and I have not seen it first hand. Next step is if you are confident that the coolant is coming from inside the turbo then the turbo needs to be looked at. You can buy a new core and the housings will swap over. Hope this helps

This is really strange now, my Turbo is good i had another mechanic check it and double check it, from what i have seen is that behind the manifold gasket there is two chambers which the water has gathered, it is not possible for the turbo to be leaking and water exiting from the manifold just because the gasket supposed to be sealed and also i would of been getting water out from the muffler.I don`t think the head is crack because i was able to run the car for lengthy period and the car never overheat, also no signs of water and oil mixing. My conclusion is that it`s possible the mechanic washed my engine the last time it was there and water got trapped on the chambers at the side of the head. Please feel free to correct me if i am wrong. oh downunder i would like to thank you for all the help you gave me..thx bro.
