I figured as much. I know a few people right now who figure octane boosters will be their way to workaround the price increase... and they're not driving 20Vs.

There are ways around it like water-meth, but the set-up cost is a tad high and it'll take an estimated 30 fill-ups to break even.
That's about half a year for most and you'd better have a damn healthy engine before you start that. Not many are willing to do that anyway.

I've gotten away with super and lots of ignition timing retard in the past, but if u don't wanna drive anything that sluggish, better you get out and walk.

I'd answer u here if this weren't already a 20V thread for the last four years.

There are enough Fielder/NZE and super/premium threads floating around.

Yes, I'm being a douchebag about this.

Relevance.

Today, with just over 1/4 tank premium I added $50 super and $50 premium which saw fuel level go to almost full in my 20vST.
I now will be observing performance, since I like to see for myself before talking.
Many years ago we used to be able to easily purchase 50/50 gas,now cashier has to ring you up for each grade separately as 2 purchases.

Almost every motor is tuned a lil differently, so what works for one may not work for another. Super is also a no-no for me judging from past experience. Performance was SO bad, it was scary. They could raise the price of gas again tomorrow and I'll still stick to premium. My issue about the increase is that there is no value-added in it - the quality is no better today than it was pre-budget. Yes, it was a subsidy, but to remove it, the government must have believed that the commodity is worth something more than we were paying for it. But, no, they just did it because they can call the shots and there is no one and no competition to set a standard. You and I HAVE to buy it because that's all there is.

I've said it before and i'll say it here again. Depends on how and where you use your car that will determine the level of success you have consistently running 92 octane petrol in an engine designated for 100RON by OEM specifications. Dialing back ignition timing, while somewhat effective, is not really the answer because when you consider the static compression of 11:1 on the blacktop engine there's still plenty of opportunity for detonation at high load/high rpm operation using 92RON fuel.
If you're someone who has to use this engine platform as your daily means of transportation and you find yourself unable to deal with the new price of premium fuel, then you may have no choice but to fill up with super at the pumps.

Considering that, I've had the opportunity to observe wideband O2 readings of engine operation using the factory ECU and each engine went off the deep end of richness between 7 and 8000 RPM using 95RON premium unleaded fuel.
Anytime a stock ECU gets down in the 10's and 9's on a wideband it's always a dead giveaway that either engine reliability was not at acceptable OEM levels during sustained testing in that RPM range so enrichment was used in the base map OR the engine is sensing knock and dumping fuel. In either scenario the same thing applies if you're thinking of switching to super. I would limit RPM operation to as low as 6000 RPM on the blacktop using 92octane fuel and reset the ignition timing till no audible pinging can be heard.

I'm sure that someone is going to get very creative with octane raising additives soon so keep your eyes peeled. If I could have afforded the USD$3000 for an octane tester I would already be mixing 92RON super with toluene to at least have another year with knock resistant fuel at low cost.

I took my car up to 140 kph today (early morn) on highway from Chaguanas to Freeport exist and things appear OK.This was after my market run.
My blend maybe something like super to premium 30/70 in the ST20V.
However,I think it's too early to call.

I tried a 50/50 mix over the weekend and still had some pinking in my lower revs if I try to accelerate in a hurry.
