most times it is the step-up unit, a lot of corolla cars are having this issue, you can easily come across one to buy in the bamboo, just verify the code on your stepup and on the one you're purchasing to make sure they are a match.

Ok. I will have to check around. Someone told me it is impossible to get in the bamboo and if you are getting it, you won't know if it's good till you put it on the car and that eventually it will go through.

I also check Toyota for the unit.. $5000

yes that's true, you won't really know unless you try it and see, when purchasing the stepup tell them if its not working you'd like to have a refund. And toyota trinidad I personally find is ridiculous with their prices.

not sure about the substitutes and how well they work, but if you manage to get your hands on one try it out and see how it works.

I have noticed that lots of fuel injected corollas, from the 5a engine come forward are having this issue, not sure if its a manufacturers defect or what exactly, someone once mentioned to me that its a problem most are having and their not sure if its something wrong with the harness, but i know some who have changed the stepup and the problem still persisted.

The idle air control valve in the throttle body was seized up and it needed servicing. Low rpm idling issue when AC on was fixed after doing this.

Try that before buying step up sensor.

^ if u looked at US model and saw those possibly usdm market specific emissions parts they don't necessarily have to be on the JDM model. So it may not necessarily be what u need or the cause of your problem.

I understand. How would you advise I go about getting this rectified then?
