Let's answer the question of parts for the Axio, with other questions.

How many Vigos, Altis', Vios, Noah, Starlet, Estima, Picnics, Wish, Sera did Toyota Trinidad Limited bring to Trinidad ? Do you see any on the roads ?

How many Navaras, Praries, Cubes, Skyline, Sunny B15 did Neal & Massy bring to Trinidad ? Do you see any on the roads ?

Checked out an Axio X today. The car is really nice and it's all wheel drive. I am very tempted to buy it... but heard that parts may be hard, esp as it is all wheel....and maintenance may be costly as a result of the AWD too.

^^It's functionally the same as the local new model corolla.

The main difference centres around some interior trim, and the rear and front lights. Other than that, under the shell, they appear to be almost mechanically identical. FOlks can correct me if I'm wrong of course.

The Altis that was imported into T&T came from Singapore with 2 engine sizes (1.6 and 1.8 ). Most of them are 1.6 (3ZZ-FE) with a handful of 1.8s (1ZZ-FE). Since the Altis (based on the E120 platform) lasted from 2000-2006, they are no longer imported into T&T.

Even though Thailand, Mayalsia, India and Singapore etc.. get the new Altis it is actually the same car as the new Corolla we get in T&T. That body style seems universal except Japan where its a bit different where it is known as the Axio (sedan) and continues the Fielder name for the station wagon.

Unfortunately since we don't import cars from Singapore anymore, we would not see the new body style Corolla with the new 1.6 (1ZR-FE), 1.8 (2ZR-FE) and 2.0 (3ZR-FE)dual VVT-i engines. Instead we have to settle for what TTTL gives us (1.5). Imagine North America has the 2.4 option (2AZ-FE) soon to be replaced with a 2.5 (2AR-FE).

The Axio is not as good looking (front is okay but the rear is hideous especially the lights) as the Corolla we get or even the new Altis which we would never get but it is an extremely reliable, comfortable, roomy and efficient car. The 1NZ-FE despite having less power than the 3ZZ-FE continues to be highly efficient due to electro-hydraulic assist power steering vs the conventional engine assisted power steering pump.

Since roro is on its way out, it may be a 50/50 for and against decision to buy an Axio since body parts would be a bit different from local units. I say should anyone purchase the new Axio's or Fielder's today, a wise decision was made. After all they're more than 35% cheaper than the local ones and at least some Axio's and Fielders come with projector beam xenon HID head lights which is absent in local units.

Good luck to whosoever are in the market for these cars.

I have a problem with the forward solenoid in the CVT of my axio with a 1nz-fe engine. Can anyone tell me where can I locate a replacement solenoid.

Thanks

the tranny in the auto 1.5 & 1.8 is electronic cvt, so there's no dipstick and there's only a nipple to pump out and in the oil, so not all mechanics have the adaptor to drain it, which is the easier part, getting the new oil is worst...

so if anyone has the oil and has the actual adaptor to work on the tranny, this is a good time to talk....

Questions:

1) The power steering pump/belt in the Altis 3zz-fe is the same found in the older NZE models with the 1nz-fe? Are they swappable?

2) The NZE 4-speed auto ECT-i tranny, is it the same as in the Altis?

3) The electronic power assist steering system in the later NZE's, can it also swap with the new Corolla's (2007 and newer?) since they both share the same engine and tranny?

4) Could the 2007/8 roro Axio's take the local 4-speed ECT-i tranny from the NZE incase the CVT goes bad?

I observed that the Axio and the local Corolla from TTTL are totally different cars. AFAIK, they share the same chassis, suspension and interior but pretty much the whole body is different. The back glass is totally different including the front bonnet, headlights, fenders, bumper, rear tail-lights, trunk lid, fenders and bumper. It begs to ask the question, what support can TTTL offer these roro customers? I think Altis and Axio owners have their work cut out for them should anything go wrong with their cars.

too answer this, it is possible as the engine is the same 1nz-fe for the 1.5 but the ECU was set up of the CVT, now you may have to change the ECU too and these axio and fielders have E-trottle more differences with the ECU, now it will work but not the best... i personally know of a case where someone changed their engine, they had a nze121 and bought back a 1nz-fe, engine only...now the mechanic or so he calls himself choose an engine that came e-trottle and possibly had the cvt and now the guy's car isnt operating as it should...he experiencing various i wont say problems but at the same time you know the car not working the best...he used back the original ecu...

the 1.8 is a different engine its the ZR series, where as the 1.8 previously used was 1zz-fe, im sure you can get a tranny to work.... but it maybe the same as above...

best thing, go manual if you really want these.... the 4wd ones have regular ect trannies, but thats another head ache...

it is presently very difficult to find, body parts that is... you'll get engine parts easier...dont be fooled when someone says that look at all the toyota models on the road that TTTL never brought in...ask the people who actually own them...great vehicles but parts are hard to get...

best advice for the corollas....go with the FU or local 121 or local 141....maybe in a couple years parts should be easier available.

Fellas who have the Axio with the 1.8 engine, what fuel are you using (super or Premium)?
