OEM locations were used for all the speakers. The tweeters on the dash was replaced and the c5 component set tweeters were used.
The mounting hardware is as follows. A piece of flat PVC was used to mimic the OEM shape to create the top plate. On the back side, the PVC endcap was traced out and a channel milled for it to fit snugly into the top plate. This was then joined together using PVC glue and painted black. A threaded rod was used to allow the wire to exit and this was then sealed with silicone. The mounting points corresponded to the OEM locations and were counter bored for the bolts to sit lower.
The speaker rings were made from 0.75" acryllic and painted black.
This material is a challenge to work with. Normal woodworking tools are used, but great time and effort is required. Access to a CNC or a mill would make it a lot easier.
The back of the rings were bored to the nut and bolt for the speaker mounting would be flush.
New wires were run for all speakers and tweeters. The speaker wire was passed through the factory door molex as well.

Next up was the amp rack. This vehicle has a plastic compartment in the trunk in front of the spare tire. This was removed to make the space for the amp rack. What you see here is the second iteration of the rack, using 2 amps and the passives instead of 3 and the DSP. Pretty straightforward fabrication.
Upol fibral was used to contour the edges to make it fit perfectly.
An aluminum channel and magnets was added to the factory cover to keep it it place where it matched up with a groove and bracket in the amp rack.
Amp rack was then wired up
A trim panel was made with inserts for plexi, both for protection of the equipment and if I wanted to light it up after.
Everything back in place
Will have to try and find the pics with the trim piece carpeted and installed. Also pics of the box build.
Finally got around to taking a couple pics of the finished thing.
One thing I really like about the JL subs are the grills. They give complete peace of mind when putting anything in the trunk. With everything installed, the trunk still has space for a couple of suitcases, so daily utility is not greatly affected.
