Making Rear Seats Foldable

Postby Jeremy09 » September 8th, 2021, 4:35 pm

Anyone ever fabricated their rear seats in their car that wasn't able to fold down to be able to? A Tiida sedan to be specific.

I have seen automotive upholsterers make a partial section of the backrest removable by cutting the seat. I'm pretty sure you can get a tiida rear backrest easily if you prefer not to cut up your original. Doing a 60/40 folding seat in cars that were not designed for it is very difficult to impossible at times.

Did this with a B13 back in the day.Dont have any pics ,that was a decade and more ago.
Basically was :
Create a rectangular frame for the back rest to attach the hinge on
Attach customized trunk hinges to it.
Attach two of those pin type bonnet locks to it through the back dash.
Make an angle protrusion that locks to the pin locks
This was really ghetto construction and looked terrible in hindsight.I'm sure I can do better now.
It can be done
