Amp cooling?

Postby fras » March 23rd, 2021, 7:57 am

Guys, I have two skar rp amps and they get very hot to the touch, after playing at full tilt for an hour. The amps never cut off, but I don't like how hot they get!

The amps are mounted vertically, behind the rear seat (van) and I'm looking at fan options! Which fans do yall recommend crossflow, marine blower or pc fan?

Would be using a relay to turn on a temp control module, which in turn would turn on the fans at set temp. BTW what would be a good temp to turn on the fans?

I used 2 pc fans for a kids amp long ago. I ran it just under the recommended impedance.

Make sure there is about an inch space over the heat sink to allow the hot air to flow out. I. E. Don't let the back rest rest exactly on the amp and stiffle the amp too much.
U say the amp don't switch off, so u dint need to do much.
I suggest use some small fans to help push out the hit air, cause stronger fans would make more noise

I'll double check the gains, as the initial installer had set those.
The pc fans seem like the best option!

Can I get a similar temp controller locally?

i not sure if u will get it locally , when u ask local ppl for "technical stuff" here they does watch u like u talking greek

3" 12v box fans aka pc fans cheap $30 for 1 & bigger 4.5" is $70 , relay & harness like $40 , toggle switch $20 & some wire for it , so for less then around $150 u can make ur own cooling & turn it on manually say after 1/2 hr ...

The stc 1000 usually worked for most. There is someone that stocks these locally, 372-7636

I agree. It is necessary to improve the air conditioning system so that the hot air does not stagnate and the internal parts do not overheat.
