sound dampening material to decouple motor noise?

Postby nervewrecker » October 16th, 2020, 9:35 pm

Not really the kinda thing you will find in here but I have a major problem with motor noise.

The system in question, they do not have parts for and its a sizeable system for someone bedroom. I got a replacement motor, there was a hum, returned it and got another, still a hum.

Purchased a new motor, ran it, its silent. Its designed for units that are small in size and compact, no large panels. When you rest it on a box there is a hum. So if it's installed where I want to install it, it will hum. It's being used in an application it wasn't designed for.

I used some gasket material from dumore and it eased up a lot. Thing is, the gasket material is thick. Will sound dampening material do any damage? Has anyone ever used it for such?

What kinda motor? What the motor used for?
Size of motor?

We talking motor in the sense of speakers? Or a motor in the sense of rotation?
