Anything wrong with high level inputs?

Postby Ted_v2 » March 12th, 2019, 8:31 pm

is there anything wrong by using the high level inputs, what i mean by that is there any limitations of it?
my deck does time alignment, 6 rca outs 4v, 3 way network mode ect.

im rewiring my system, running out speedwire from behind my deck to below my passenger seat. from there the vehicle is already wired out with 14G or 12G stinger wires. currently planning on using the deck active and tossing the passives i have there currently.

at some point however i will intoduce a 4 channel amp for the components and get the signal from the deck thru high level inputs and back out from amp to the wires to the components. , main reason i hate rcas with a passion, forever failing in my previous installs.

i currently have the sub out from the deck via rca to a monoblock.

I've used high level inputs already to use an amp with an OEM headunit and to me, there was no ill effect from doing so.

I think in your case, it should not have any advantage or disadvantage from doing so. The only downside I can think of is that if you decide to change your proposed amp to one that doesn't have high level inputs, then you'll have to run RCAs anyway.

Also, consider using a barrier terminal strip to connect the new wires with the old ones. It'll make the switch over easier as well.

nothing wrong with using high level inputs, just that it'll take a few minutes more to connect everything, and that if you find you need a crossover or preamp or dsp for better tuning and frequency separation, most of these things tend to come with low level rca inputs and outputs as standard, and you might find it difficult or pricey to source one with high level inputs.

Looking at getting a amp for my components right now.
60x4 at 4 ohms would be fine, could be a bit more but not less.
getting this amp right now
GX-A604 JBL 60 -watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms (85 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms) $1150 tripple R price

its pretty well sized, reasonable enough price. has high level inputs ect. pair of 20 amp fuses.

recommend me something locally.
