Amp tripping issues

Postby soundboi86 » December 9th, 2018, 9:50 pm

Good day tuners im having a problem with my image dynamics v3 d4 12. When ever i turn up the volume my amp keeps tripping. I tried it in a friends car that has alot of current supply and the same thing happened to his amp. My sub box is tuned to 32hz 40inches length x 14 inches high x 12 inches wide. I re-checked the sub ohms
and it was fine 4ohms on each coil and 1.99after i bridged it. Im using one of the older rockford amp 1000.1 which is 2ohm stable but my friends amp is an orion cobalt 2400.1 1ohm stable. Both of our amps tripped whenever we turn up the volume. Can anyone help me figure it out??

Check if you paralleled the sub correctly.

odd. sounding like either too much resistance or more likely possibly a power supply issue, check your power supply lines for leaks as well as your grounding points.

I tried it n same problem...and im pretty sure that i dont have any current or grounding issue...but what im puzzled with is what could possibly be wrong with the sub....is it possible that the 1.99ohms cud be dropping whnever the sub heats up?

it's possible, maybe a burnt coil that fused
have you tried wiring each coil of the sub to its own channel, or in series to see what happens?

OP how the cone moves when you're playing it?

thinking reversed polarity?
even if it were reversed, not likely to cause the cutout, it'd just sound like crap.

nope not checking for reversed polarity, however I've seen manufacturers label the polarity wrong on woofers already. If they label one of the coils wrong this can spell problems when paralleling.

Amps trip when the current flow is too high, which suggests that something is shorting somewhere when the speaker is fed more power.

WAG: Check the tinsel leads connecting the terminals to the voice coils, to see if they're too close to each other (if they touch, they will short).

Thanks for all the help guys. It turned out that the sub was the problem. I hooked up a d4 712dd and it played very well with no tripping of the amp.........im not really a fan of high bass so im looking for another brand of sub that can play lows like the idmax.....any suggestions??

There's recone kits available for the idmax if you want to go back that route also
