Hey man there is no problem with the subs... Listen people don't understand that the premier SPL subs are designed for SPL class(sound pressure level) meaning that the speaker is deisgned to take high power but for a short playing period... Everyone wants to buy them and jam it with d amount of rms it takes(1000watts RMS) thats ok, but when u wanna hit it with 3000 watts, it will only play for 30 mins tops...(i have tested this speaker myself) It is a great speaker hence using the name SPL

i heard someone say to much excursion of the sub's extreme limit after a period of time makes the coil temp get real hot causin it to burn out..i guess a curtain amount of powah has to be behind it as well :|

other than that i can guess... i had a pioneer 305dvc in it's recommended size and well it burnt because i had wayy to much powah on it..( that was besically for fun as well)

i diasgree with this statment

too much raw power will probably cause mechanical due to high excursion before the coil is burnt in most cases

distortion which transalates to heat is what burns voice coils

distorted signal ie clipped signals causes heat build up on the coil
