Question/Advice on 3 way setup.

Postby infinite_RPM » February 6th, 2015, 12:42 am

Yes so guys heres my problem.. A few years now ive had a DLS c36 (i think thats the model) 3 way setup in my almera.

Woofers in doors
Midrange in kicks
Tweeters on dash as far foward as possible.

As im driving more these days, I realised how crappy it sounds. Also it isnt loud enough anymore.
When I sit to drive, my legs block the midrange on the right and I feel like I'm missing a huge chunk of the music.

I'm currently looking to switch to a two way setup. But with two mini speakers mounted on the back of where the door mirrors are, directed toward my ears (powered by the deck). so its a two way speakers with two mini fullrange speakers aimed at me.

mini speakers - http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-aud ... m--295-236

2 way comps im looking at http://soundstream.com/store/car-audio/ ... /tc-6.html

What do you guys think of my idea? how will the mini speakers affect the stage? etc.. Thanks for any input

Try playing with your crossover points and see if it helps. If not, reposition your mid-range woofer on the dash/sail/a-pillar.

The DLSc36 is a nice set imho.

Do a two way with the mid in the kick panel then.

Cut metal and make it an AP setup. Foot cant block that.

thanks for the feedback but im trying to avoid cutting metal or put the dls midrange in the a pillars because the a pillars are really tiny and i wasnt sure how to fit them on the a pillars which is why they are in the kickpanels in the first place.

its also why i wanna introduce the mini speakers into the system as the can mount behind the door mirror or on the a pillar (also thinking about visibility as well)

was also wondering if to just leave 3 way comps in car and wire up mini speakers?

3-4" in Kp, just doesnt give enough spl for most ppl daily driving.

If you want to live with that nice set you have, you need to move it up top.
Dash, Door, Pillar etc...
OR...
Some nice 6.5 comp\coax will suffice.
OR...
Sell me that set and move on...

Haha I will go get a pair of a pillars by a foreign used place.. I don't think I'd sell these.. I love the tweeters too much.. I have some Dayton reference stuff if you interested lol.. (Yes I'm a hard core Dayton fanboy). Will keep you guys updated

What processsing do you have available if you mount your midranges on top?

Can you run your DLS as a two way and see if you like that arrangement?

Perhaps keep the mid bass in the doors and use a better DLS tweet that can meet the mid?

If it sounds "crappy" perhaps the system can benefit from a tune up?
