burnt pioneer 308 resurrected

Postby star23 » August 6th, 2013, 2:10 pm

well its vacation time and my lil cousins are home trying to keep themselves occupied with anything possible so i decided to do some cleaning up and throw away stuff collecting dust in the garage. Usually when a speaker burns out i just give it to them , after that is level hammer, throwing up in the air all kina sheit in an attempt to get the magnet out lol. However this time they wanted to TRY and repair it and this is what it looks like now with the help of myself and youtube. All soft parts bought from monstrose electronics 1. cone and surround $95.00, spider $20.00, coil-$125.00, pig tail-$12 per ft, dust cap-$12.00.Again its a pioneer 308 12" burnt more than a year ago after 5 mins of use, after that i did the same thing with a 309 which is where the black finisher comes from. We have never attempted this before and strictly amateurs at it. At the moment i have tested it in free air to make sure no coil knock , will try to test it in a box and see how it sounds. Just wanted to share the rebuild with u tuners who also have pioneers collecting dust. thanks for viewing.

Nice to see you getting the younger generation involved in repairing and understanding how things function

just tested it in two boxes, one was 33 hz 2.cu ft and the other 38hz 1.6 cu ft which( this one i build for an re sx), imo the 38hz box sounded better and louder. Even test it out with test tones from bass mekanik , 35-40hz was the best response according to cd in both boxes. The second box even plays the lows better than the low tunes one, i am confused with that one. In terms of original pioneer build and this rebuild, the bass sounds louder with the same amount of power i had on it before just with a deeper bass. Overall it was worth every minute and just took about 1hr 30 mins to do

Nice work. Would be nice to see what the t/s parameters of your frankenwoofer are. Any particular reason you chose to go with a cup spider instead of a flat spider and a riser?

the cup spider was not my choice, i think it was the closest one to original size and the riser is actually a brace for the cone joining on to the coil which is beveled on either side so u can fill it with glue . Those youths bought all the parts i just helped with the alignment, gluing and testing, after that was drink ah chubby and listen tuh a vybz kartel. Parameters out the door for this one, one youth say once it playing "hurrrrrrd" he good tuh go lol.
