I found a nice tutorial on how to do this cheap. You dont need to buy a 90USD Dayton wt3. Some of you might find this quite useful. I finished mine today and tested it with one of my Faital 4fe30 mids and the tsp`s I pulled were within 10% or so from factory spec.
So heres the tutorial:
http://www.caraudioclassifieds.org/foru ... cheap.htmlNow to help me, I used wire which was clearly labelled positive and negative to be extra sure which wire was going where. I also labelled my diagram to further help this. The poster in the tutorial mixed up his wires.
First i measured all my wire lengths and tinned the ends to be soldered to the resistor. I didnt tin the ends going to the plugs because sometimes the extra solder makes it difficult to insert the wire through the hole in the tab. A set of helping hands is a must.
before soldering the plugs remember to insert the shell, strain relief and the polythene sheath for the TRS jack. If you forget you will have to desolder the plug which may ruin it.
I had a broken 3.5mm to RCA adapter as pictured below. I cracked it open and removed the guts and used the empty shell to house the resistor. I hot glued everything into place.
The finished product is not pretty but it is fully functional.
You can attach alligator clips or leave the wire bare if you are using push terminals.
Heres a screen shot of it measuring the impedance plot of the Faital mid:
The Fs is very close to the factory spec.
An important note: if the speaker has a pole vent, just for safety, dont block it. See if u can prop the woofer on its side.
