help on ohms

Postby rocknation » September 30th, 2012, 12:13 pm

hey i just wanted to know, if a 8 ohms speaker is bridge on a 4 ohms amp the speaker will play at 8 ohms, i think i get that part. But what if i add a 8ohms tweeter bridge on to the same speaker will the ohms drop to 4 ohms.....??????????

if you connect the two 8 ohm in parallel you will get total resistance to be 4 ohms
if you connect a 4 and 8 ohm in parallel you will get total resistance to be less than 4 ohms

use this formula for two speakers in parallel
total resistance = (R1*R2)/(R1+R2)

That depends on whether or not you're using any sort of passive crossover with those speakers.

Then you should consider using a passive crossover with that tweeter bridge rather than connecting it directly. What type of tweeters are they?

Note: the impedance rating of a speaker is a "nominal" rating, and the actual impedance varies with frequency.
