Amp Help

Postby Xman » January 3rd, 2005, 6:07 pm

I installed an amp and after 30-60 secs it cuts out......the power light is still on but the bass speakers stop..they go mute. If I take off the system and put it back on the amp powers up but nothing coming from the speakers.....If I wait bout ten minutes and turn on the head unit everything starts to play good again....bu then the sub goes mute again
Any suggestions???

does the protection led light up?
is there a clicking sound when sub cuts out?
have you tried another speaker?

i would tend to agree with roger about the loading as well.

Its a dual voice coil 4 ohm. its parallel/parallel to 1-ohm. I am running Directed 1100d which is stable to 1-ohm. The protection light does not come on, the power light stays on. The is no noticeable click when it cuts out. Could it be the amp board or sumting like that....the amp has been resoldered due to cold solder.

I don't think is load impedance cause at volume low as 1 it cutting out after 60secs!!!

the amp needs to be checked by a qualified person.

you have already identified the problem.

well try connecting the subs in a series / parallel configuratioin to establish a 4 ohm load (total) and you can determine if there is a loading problem. If not, this can also be happening due to a faulty power supply (in the amplifier's circuitry)
