DIFFERENT BATTERY AND CHARGING

Postby spam » June 8th, 2009, 8:14 am

ok people just a lil help needed

i have 2 alternators

alter A is hooked up to alter B, 0gwg cable is hooked up from alter B to the batteries in car. the battery in the engine bay is the same type as the ones in the car and is hooked up to alter A.

what i want to know is Can i move the engine bay battery to the back of the car and use a different type of batter up front ?

would that hamper the charging of the batteries in the back that are actually used for music ?

you tend you get a big(ish) voltage drop from the front of a vehicle to its back.. even with 0gauge wires..

the problem with using different types of batteries in that they all float at a different voltage.. if a battery isolator is not used, the batteries will run themselves down over time..

if identical batteries are used, they will take ALOT longer to run themselves down..

using different batteries will not affect the overall charge rate..

what about different battries haveing different charging rates

eg-

batt a- 13ah

bat b- 16ah

i say stick to one model/type right tru

the different charging rates shorten the life of the bigger battery... because it will always be charging the smaller one....

those are the discharge rates you quoted there.. the charging rate is dependent on the capacity of the battery and it's current (charge) state..

a run down battery will have a high charge rate etc..

batteries will charge at their required rate regardless of how many are used and the different types are used..

running the alternators separate, there is the possibility you may under-utilize one of them.. with both in parallel, when your amps draw current, it will pull from both alts simultaneously, giving you the best performance..

i never noticed that.. strange..

either way, giving a charging rate doesn't make much sense.. if the battery is fully charged, like under normal use conditions, the charging rate will be very low.. only when drained, it will ever utilize the AH rate described..

well from what i've gathered, having a constant charging rate of 13ah going to the battery,it will be able to output the 48ah at a constant rate without completly discharging the battery

so basically it keeps the battery topped up

nah, there is only so much current that can pass through a battery during charging, without damaging it.
