W.t.k. alternator pulley

Postby dj kev » July 22nd, 2014, 5:46 pm

Afternoon. Wanted to find out some information about installing an alternator. I realized that the high amperage alternator comes with a 6 groove pulley. How is it possible to hook up if your vehicle comes Vpulley?. I know you can change the pulley on the alternator to a V. But wouldn't it slip? Thanks

It is possible it might slip depending on the capacity of the alternator. Really high capacity alts draw in a lot of power to spin under heavy load. Adjusting the tension would be the only thing you could do if it slips easily. Is it possible to convert the rest of pulleys to the multi V groove?

What amperage alternator you want to run?

I'm looking at running a 270amp. Would it still slip? What deems to have a higher amperage alternator installed?. Is it the total system or just the bass?

What vehicle do you have?

I can provide V belt and Double V Belt High Amperage Alternator options for your application.

Its usually not recommended to use over 240 amps on A Single V Belt for Daily driving applications,

i had this problem too it really not fair to spend close to 4000 to hear the belt instead of the music well for V belt engines getting the alternator aligned properly with the rest of the belt system alot of customization is needed ,,,use gates brand of belts ,,,, the length of the belt has to be short and the transfer of power from belt to belt on ur compressor has to be tight and str8 all other belts on the system must be changed as well,,,, tension all the belts fairly tight not too tight remember there is a bearing inside,,,, drive for 2/4 days then retention u shud be good to go its also a good idea to hv a battery isolator in case u want to turn off the alt from chargin the back *park an pound did u run zero ground to the alternator and the resistor they sent it with was a waste of time for me i run it to the stock wiring *the charge light resistor wire and i hv a clamp to check amps wen it charging ......with the resistor it was barley shootin out 10 amps jus idlin no music playin with out it 20 amps plus

BTW dont be tryin to charge up some dead ass batteries with it eh it wasnt made for tht u will burn it down buy a battery charger if the batteries good then gr8

as the mechman alts dealer, we did an install running a 340a on a single v belt pulley running 300amps clamped with no slip .. there are ways to do it

also its advised to run alts no bigger than 240a on a single v belt, this means alts that actually do 240a. i know some 320a alts locally that cant cross 218a measured. so it depends on which brand of alt you looking at
