I have had experience with both and IMO, the Soundstream gets the nod.

i also would choose the clarion

it has alot more tunning than the 5XO

the only time i wud prefer the 5XO over the clarion is when i'm in a situation of, playing mids highs and bass of the preamp alone. in this situation the clarion wud not be used because of the fact that when the sub level is raised,it also affect the midrange and highs by sending a signal of midbass through it,whereas the 5xo when the bass is turned up it has no effect wat so ever on the midrange and highs

but in further use when you have purchased the clarion and would like to add a sub to your system you would simply have to add a crossover to your system, so in case you raise your sub level and midbass comes through your 10's you and simple go to your crossover and raise the frequency that is sent to your midrange amp.

JBL crown by chance are you going to place this on a bike or sumting like that??

Why not use an Audiocontrol 3.1/4.1?

I lost here.. What is it you really want? A pre amplifier, equalizer or crossover?

As far as I know, both of those are useless without a proper crossover to filter the audio spectrum.

If you want a pre amplifier, the Audio Control Overdrive / Matrix is king. If it's tuning you are after, then get a proper dedicated equalizer. If you system does not have a proper crossover, then get this 1st!

my 2c

See what I'm saying.. You getting some poor advice man.

You NEED a proper crossover to run those equipment.. Compression drivers generally work best from 1500Hz up. (What do you have them set to now?)

The 10"s would play best from ~80Hz to 1500Hz (this calls for a bandpass filter)

and you sub can play from 80hz down.

deck -> preamplifier -> proper 3 way crossover -> amplifiers -> speakers

With that setup you will have maximum control over all your speakers. They will be able to play louder and cleaner also. You could also use the built in EQ from the deck to give a lil bump in the midbass if your budget will not allow for a dedicated EQ.

I'd strongly recommend you get ONE, Audiocontrol Overdrive or Rockford Fosgate BLD (about $700 each brand new), and an Audiocontrol 6XS (bandpassable super precise crossover). That alone will make a worthwhile difference in your system..

To be honest, your current setup is garbage imo.. Fire your installer..
