If you like the Imprint and what is contails go for the 9887. If not but would like the option to add imprint later on go for the 117.

CDA-9887 - built-in imprint tuning.

i have this deck and can vouch for it. imprint allows 500 points of Eq and time correction. good for SQ.

but would the flexiblity of the 117 allow for 3way active crossing off the HU itself?
there is TA on both and appears to have the same EQ

the main advantage is the USB on the 117

as well as is there a difference between burr brown 24bit DAC and just 24Bit dac?
and if there is a difference is there an audible difference?

usb is a big advantage. the 9887 is not usb.. but ipod ready. cable costs 20 US$.

24-bit burr brown DAC. Does it make an audible difference. lol.. well it depends on the person who listening.
