Not Building Box this Week! Need some final Clarification

Postby carfreak1024 » April 7th, 2010, 7:49 pm

alright i wanna build my box this week,

but the only way that i can fit the port in my box is to make the port along the top or bottom of the box and curl it up inside the box, i guess you guys know i decided on ported now.

Box is gonna be a monochamber design, 4 cubic to 25hz.

after driver and port displacement it comes out to just above 5 cubes.

wanted to do aeroports, but apparantly i cannot 2 4" aeroports in my box which is what i wanted to go with.

Box is 16" tall, 33" wide, and 16.75" deep.
port is 31.5" wide, 1.25" tall, and 41" long.

but what i wanted to know is what would be the negative effects of me using a wide port, mono chamber design, and curling the port inside the box. Because i see that way i could create some pressure zones where all those right angles would be.

BTW where can you buy aeroports anyway, and at what price.

is this for the 2 10s?
if so that is way too big

with the ratio of those port specs(width and height) you will get alot of port noise and whistling

keep the height to width ratio under 7:1

you are at 25.2 to 1! which will cause alot of friction between the air and port walls.. this will cause shifts in your tuning frequency

how did you come up with the 4cu.ft @ 25Hz btw?

well i like how my cousin's sub sounded in my car, so i plotted his sub on bassbox, and then designed this box to sound the same way, i was wondering about those port dimension, what about if i do it dual chamber and split the port. then i would have 2 ports, each ~15"x1.25".

thats closer to the 7:1.

But i was also thinking how hard is it to make aeroports.

carfreak1024, so you just split it like that and expect that it is still 25Hz tuned (assuming it was before, I didn't check it) or you gonna revisit the port specs?

Some of my personal boxes have close to square slot type ports... they don't look as great but who cares.

And as jeff said that over big for a couple 10s if that's what you running.

yeah thats what i am running a pair of 10s, what would you suggest for a pair of 10s, JBL recommends 1.75 cubic net for 1 sub tuned to 25hz, and of course i would revisit the port specs, because port length is dependant on both box volume and port area so i would most likely have to change that. I was just saying if that would be more desirable ratio for port dimensions.

but on a next note, i tried some DIY aeroports, and they came out pretty good for a first try. I mean the ends are crispy but what the hell you can cut those off afterwards. I just can't figure out how to get the flange for it bigger, but give me some time and i will figure it out. I used the boiling method at first, but that didn't go that well, used the burner afterwards and that worked alot better.
