air flows better through an external port.. as the mouth of the port is on a wall of the box, air finds its way into the port much easier.. that increases air flow through the port, thus increasing it's SPL potential..

funny looking but actually makes sense, i did sometin like this back in d day when i had a eight inch sub in a shoe box and a foil paper tube as a port

ppl been doing this yrs now

looks really odd in a daily install so thats y u mostly see it in a spl install where most ppl just use that spl set for just 1 day & its back out their ride when d comp is over...

seen an install like this at a shop in the states, the fella had 2 15" kicker solobaric l7 ported through the middle fold down seat in the backseat.

The installer told me that it was done that way to increase air space inside the box as he could not fit a wood box large enough in the trunk to accomodate the subs internal air space and port. the subs were also mounted with the cones facing inside.

i go call him and ask if he took any pics of the install.

he had the port done in plexi and lit up with a few L.E.D. so it looked rell flashy.
