Grounding part 2

Postby elantra » January 18th, 2009, 2:20 pm

ok so i had a previous post about grounding i got some ideas so i went to try it today

First....i try muting plugs, the amps (speakers) didnt give any noise but i still reground everything tested again with the plugs no noise from amps.

second... i move to the cross over ( memphis 3xo i think) i get noise using the muting plugs so i reground that with 8awg wire. still get noise so i say the memphis "bad" so i put it in a my bro car working perfect. no noise.. even when the plugs are out an the van idling u getting engine noise an all that was connected was the cross over to the amp to speaker rca from headunit was disconnected.

Third.. i run the rca direct to the amp.. head unit to amp, no noise, so i put in the cross an float the rca no power close by still get noise, i ground the rca still get noise, i ground the headunit as well using 8awg wire.

so the memphis doesnt seem to have a problem cause it working great in the car., so i was wondering if its anything to do with the power coming in wether its a smooth DC. i am shooting in the dark,.. so any ideas??

Have you tried using a different grounding point for the xover?

something that most people dont do...check the resistance of the ground spot back to the front

youd be surprised at the resistance changes within distances of inches..

You can also try to use the head unit ground point as the xover ground point.
But I feel you should still do the big 3 as well.
