subwoofer enclosure help

Postby elantra » November 24th, 2008, 8:14 pm

Hey i was hoping to get some help. kinda frustrated with the "up an down". well i bought 2 DD 1508 (8") subs to put in a hilux, its not giving me what i want (only use it for 2 song an take it backout) . so i am hoping to build a box an have it act as my backrest, i have seen somepeople do this in frontiers etc an it look just sad. anyone got ideas pictures of how i could put a single 10 in the middle and still keep a simple look.

a single 10 will fit comfortably behind the seat. No need to do any other seat modifications

i really like those 8" DDs.. pretty amazing lil subs if you ask me.. and with the right enclosure, those two 8"s should outperform most 10"s...

what were the specs of the box you used at 1st? was it ported? and what are you looking to get out of them? more loudness, low end response etc..

well to be honest, they played pretty well, but i had one re 12" and i was hopin to get that sound from it. the box was 2.2ish cubic.. not sure the exact figure, with my seat coming forward 1.5" forwardit had 2 3" ports to the top, it was going low it just wasnt geting loud. so i saw some guys customize a back seat/box an it looked really good, i figured a DD9510 or something. the thing is i could have built a center console int he middle but the base of the seat does raise to get the jack.
riadb, yeah boy i know 1 10 go fit but its how loud it go get.

well u could extend the box through the seat so the woofer and the front of the seat will be on the same face. kinda like countersinkin the woofer into the middle of the seat and couple it with the required enclosure from behind

ohhoo
well normally unless u do glassing for the corners it will never look neat so the enclosure will take some time and effort to build, plus u need a good upholstery person to cover it back .

I've seen it done before but the seats are very very uncomfortable :?

daz no scene.... i have no problem with that, i'm glad to offer any assistance possible.

build the rough enclosure with MDF but use fiberglass to create rounded corners and edges of the enclosure to get the rounded seat look. Then the upholstery guy can easily cover it with foam and cloth/leathet and build back a seat out of it. It's a painstaking job and requires both delicate MDF and fiberglass work but the finished product will be great and also comfortable

yeah i know someone that has it, we have the same kinda van and we working together trying different stuff, from what i gather it works well but not worth the price an doesnt get as loud as expected.

well i feel this weekend if i have some time i go try something by myself on the corners on scrap first an see how it look, i will post some pics if it look presentable

Why not build sub behind seat and cut the seat to extend a slot port for the original two 8"

imo that will be the best that you can get. and the seats will not be uncomfortable... one person will just be sitting in front of a little fan

well i trying not to cut the orginal seat. i looking for an extra one ( 06 hilux) but riadb give me a nice idea to go with corners etc so i might go with building over the entire thing, that way i get to go how loud i really wanted in the first place.
