lil wonder 4.580 tuning assistance

Postby markzz » December 26th, 2007, 9:18 am

yo i bought a lil wonder amp recently its a pretty nice amp and really clean and loud.. however i am having some trouble understanding the tuning on this amplifier

there's 2 frequency multipliers that i cant seem to get to work.. when i turn the HPF all the way up i still get a lil bass thru it hence my need for the multiplier.

and anyone knows how the BP filter works..

assistance would be greatly appreciated

here's what when u switch on the bandpass filter u put the 2 channels for strict mid between 2 frequencies- a high pass and a low pass which are both located as settings on the amp per 2 channels

highpass- this is actually the low point cutoff
lowpass- this is actually the high point cutoff

when bandpass is on, you can now control both what frequencies your speaker plays and accurately play your particular speaker hence not damaging it

so you must adjust both the highpass and low pass to suit the speakers, not what u this sounds good because peeps in trinidad go and buy speakers without considering it's particular use

eg. peeps run to buy eminence beta. why? because d "installer" or "padners" recommend it. so u go buy it and try to make it play what u want. no research was done, so u do not know anything about the speaker besides power handling and impendence. so now, u go and try to make it play frequencies which it was not designed to play since it is a sound reinforcement but u makin it play midbass hence damaging, burnt coils, broken cones, dropped spiders ect.then u say dat speaker not good and bad talk the brand.

another thing is that a lil bass must run through you lower mid line, or it will sound like crap because u have no midbass.all u gettin issa set of hights and high mid

so peeps when designing a system for your car plzz do a lil research b4 buying car audio products

Markzz and DJ Anand-
check your deck and place all the crosover settings(mid, bass, highs) flat or zero.
go to amp and place your gain to half and stitch on the highpass filter, leave the multiplier off
asuming u have a preamp, turn down all settings and volume
turn u deck volume to it's maximum then use the preamp volume turn it up untill u have distortion and ajust the deck volume to suit the preamp untill no distortion can be heard when the preamp's volume is about 75% up
now tune you mids using all the controls starting from the mid bass(not subs)untill you can hear the music playing as clean as possible
ajust gains to suit

I had a boss amp on this same system before and i never got bass out of my mids. All i did was change the amp. The bass i'm getting is not mid bass, its a low frequency bass. Its not alot but i don't like seeing my mids speakers moving too much. And this is with the HPF on the highest frequency. I don't have a pre-amp or crossover but i think i will have to with this amp.

try disconnecting ur mids speakers and play bass alone

if it still moves then it is not properly sealed ... i would recommend u try to seperate the enclosure it is in or if it is just bolted to the back dash then try using a baffle cup

question on setting the bandpass filter.. (i didn't hook up the amp as yet)

from what i seeing, only CH3 & 4 has the bandpass filter capability...

what i want to know is how to use the two push button switches near CH3 & 4 RCA inputs? do these determine the HPF & LPF freqiencies? or can i use the rotary knobs to set the HPF & LPF to my liking?

when depressed, it says 50Hz - 650Hz and when up 500Hz - 6.5KHz..

thanks

those 2 switches only work when the bp setting is selected..

if u put the sw on lp it does not do anyting to the sound as well as if u use the hp

i figured it was placed there to be used as a tri-mode amp where ch 3and ch4 would be bridged and used to drive a sub

^ aw shucks.. so i guessing that the bp filter is pre set to either 50-650Hz or 500-6.5Khz and can't be set custom to my liking (via the hp / lp adjustment controls)...
