Which Amp?

Postby fras » June 11th, 2007, 12:10 pm

How do u decide which amp to power ur music?

Hear what I have four 6.5"speakers and one 12" subwoofer and I want all powered by one amp!

The 6.5's are: 35w RMS _ 4ohm _ 220w max
The 12" is: 400w RMS _ 2ohm & 4ohm dual voice coil _ 1200w max

How much channels should the amp have any why?
And because I want to power all my speaker with one amp... how do I calculate how powerful the amp should be?

u could get a decent 5 channel amp..
well u'll want atleast 30wrms @ 4ohm per channel for ur 6.5"
but getting 400wrms @ 2ohm on a 5 channel amp may be difficult..im not sure though

is ur sub dual 2ohm? or dual 4ohm?

that sub sounds like a pioneer...if u not into LOUD music n stuff...sell that and get a decent JL or something rated about 200wrms

it might be hard to get a 4 channel to play the four 6.5" then bridge the rear and play @ 2ohms.... u should change the woofer and geh a 4ohm 1 because most 4 channels when bridged to play the sub work @ 4ohms.. IMO change the sub and get a single 4ohm...

as for calculating the amp etc most likely u would be playing the 4 speakers off the 2 front channels..so 2 left speakers front and rear would be paralleled and played @ 2ohms same for the right(thats for the front channel of the amp).. then u need a amp that would give off 35-45 rms @ 4 ohms hence 70-90@ 2ohms... and well the sub power (the rear 2 channels when briged)would be about 200rms that would play the sub decent.

I usually try to give speakers at least 1.5 their Rated power in rms. But thats just me.

the directed 5 channel 2400d i think it is

is about 80wrms x 4 @4 ohm

and 600wrms x 1 @ 1ohm

so at 2ohm it should be about 340-400 wrms

dls and jl slash series will be above the $2500 price range

i dunno why people does buy the wrong sub config for thier application

if you had the single 4 ohm sub to this model or a dual 2 sub

there are a large range of 4 channel amps that woul do the job

Get 2 amps or a Dual 2ohm Sub?

well getting a dvc2ohm sub or single 4 might cost u cheeper than another amp
since the avg sub amp @ 2ohm is about 1300 then u hadda get extra wires..etc
