WTK, 2 way crossovers

Postby InDeForest » April 7th, 2007, 4:16 pm

I'm going to need a 2-way crossover to handle 400wrms or over reliably.
All i can find in the stores in POS so far is scary nippons with lower wattage.
Any leads?

Well as I say it needs to be at least 400wrms, but its for bass guitar box, so that means, usually running about half that, for a few hours at a time occasionally, not jamming out full volume whole day.

 alyuh making me feel to sell me amp with them comments yes...

InDeForest, what is the speaker impedance of the system you're using? I'm guessing 8ohms? So far is only the nippons i've seem also. (I've used a set already and actually broke the solder off the connections on the PC board!)

Well 4 ohms for the current one, but there will be some 8 ohm in the future.
Im looking at the simple passive capacitor and inductor formulas, but dont know yet if im going to find the values ill need, looks like .2mH and a 12uf 300v non polarized cap, might hadda make the inductors

i just built a pair for one of my team mates.
I used Solen caps..

send me the cut off frequencies, and i'll get the schematic for you. you can get the solen caps from partsexpress.

you could actually wrap the coils yourself also or by one of them motor rewinders and choose whatever guage wire you want

i've done that before, got the formula somewhere for the number of turns
and borrowed a fluke meter which has inductance on it, just wrap more coils then reduce whilst measuring with the meter

let me know the caps, i have a bunch of solen caps as well as some orange drops sitting doing nothing.
