WTK: motorcycle

Postby ZMG » April 12th, 2016, 1:26 pm

Ok so basically looking into a commuter bike. Nothing big. A friend mentioned to me back in Trinidad about an indian made bike- Bajaj. Brand new they were really reasonably priced. Some people give them a bad rep though.

So is it just a stigma? Just because it's indian made people bash it? Anyone know?

What are some good commuter bikes that you can get in Trinidad brand new at reasonable prices?

I'm not in Trinidad at the moment so anyone who knows current prices, dealers, etc. any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have been told that the bajaj bikes work good....but parts can be difficult to get.

Best/cheap new bike may be the yamaha ybr125.
Last price i got was around 15k.

Go with the bajaj. Really well built. Bajaj is one of the best commuter bike brand in India. Bajaj also make a model for Kawasaki. There was a local dealer in chaguanas but they seemed to have closed down or moved? Can anyone confirm? They used to stock all 1200 parts for the bike. Resale value is really poor though. You might get a good deal on a used one for 5-8k. Other than that try a used 80's Yamaha , eBay has all the parts. They can go for 6k. PM user name Ruff on trinituner for some more assistance.

Bajaj motorcycles are durable and reliable. They are also responsible for some of Kawasaki's technology . Some of their models are marketed as Kawasaki in certain regions.

Thanks guys. Greenes (Yamaha Dealer) has the Yamaha XT250 (2016) for $43,000 on the road new. Anyone care to give some insight into this? Is that a good price. Is the XT250 a good bike? Pros, cons, etc.

You sure you want to go brand new? 43k can get you a used busa, r1, zx14, etc. A used xt250 or sr250 will be about 6-9k (80's model) in great condition and these will be perfect for new riders. If you have the money tho and want to go brand new a Kawasaki 250 ninja is probably the best starter bike money can buy. I along with 95% of riders would suggest a good used Japanese bike for a starter bike. As you get a few years of experience you can choose a brand new model?

Thanks for the info. It's actually not a starter bike. I've ridden trails and a 600 cbr. Honestly a 600 supersport was my initial interest but I hear so many stories about not so wholesome used ones on the market it worries me a bit. My budget is 35k-45k max. A sport bike is more so my point of interest but I'm not sure what type and how solid of a sport bike I can get in that price range.

I own a Bajaj. So far it works well. Great on fuel an starts every time. The dealer stop bringing them but has a whole warehouse of parts still. Top speed is only 115km

I think you might be expecting too much for the $15k. But if you do find any you can always let me know bro.

I'm interested in a commuter bike as well. I'll like to know how long does it take to get from POS to San Fernando in the afternoon traffic with a bike? Driving a car the traffic is horrible.
