advice on buying pre owned car

Postby jessica_r » September 29th, 2014, 10:44 am

hi
I need some advice when buying a local-used vehicle.
The owner wants me to pay in cash half the cost of the car. And after it is
transferred, I will pay the other half. is that normal in this type of transaction?

Don't agree to that. If he wants a wire transfer of half the money and willing to take another wire transfer or certified cheque after the vehicle is transferred then fine. All this should be accompanied by a contract signed by both of you in advance!

I can see two things playing out here as he's insisting on cash. You either get robbed of the money "accidentally", or you give him the money and you never see him nor car again.

Be very careful

Make certified cheque, go to license office. Transfer car. Give seller cheque, come home with car!
