The man in a daze yes

Postby MichaelR » March 16th, 2012, 5:05 am

I doubt it mattered really if you take it out of gear right after. I suppose it was one less thing to do when being towed away.

yea it held up well, i would think co-driver was dead. But those barriers really had to be there like that? and having the cars make the tight right turn through a gap in the wall after the fast straight seems like poor track design to me.

I am going to assume that you are referring to this comment in particular:

"Advice to all regarding the barriers. The concrete barrier was there for a specific reason. The track was checked and approved by a track inspector prior to the event and also on the event. Safety comes first at any rally and we do not make barrier type or placement decisions lightly."

I did read the comments initially and thought that this is was a very vague and weak attempt to justify the placement of the barriers. Who was the track inspector? What was the "specific reason" for the placement of the barriers? Why not state this info if you really want us to believe you placed the barriers well? Also after looking at the track map, it seems like a very narrow high speed turn to me. http://rally.com.au/images/stories/Cald ... ridge1.pdf

Water filled barriers, bales of hay etc are just some of the alternatives suggested by others commenting on this crash in forums. It seems to me that the organizers simply overlooked the potential for that type of crash and dont want to admit it. Of course, i wasnt there or involved, but thats just what i think from what i saw.
