How do you feel about LHD cars in Trini

Postby zeeshan66 » May 11th, 2011, 12:50 pm

I'm curious how does everyone feel about LHD cars here? Does it make the owner look cheap..does it matter?

Lately i've been seeing more and more left hand drive cars on our roads. Aside from the STUPID AND UGLY obligatory sticker that's on the back of them, lot of them are high end vehicles. AMG's with v8's, bmw's, fully optioned land cruisers and suv's etc. I guess the same rule of importing a car still applies but there's way better deals when getting a car from the states than from say the UK or japan.

Let's discuss!

My option not up there, I would never buy one; too hard to overtake, passengers exit into traffic and cant block traffic with long conversations with people who are just as inconsiderate as me

Zeehsan are the cars you're seeing newer than 5 years old by chance? I think your poll is geared towards these and not the returning residents that bring their uzzlers with them.
I can only comment on the later and the anticlimax these owners see when they realise no one cares about their GM that x-years later running an RB.

I think the only real concern is safety. I'm faced with the same stigma and naivete dirving a RHD car in North America.

should be banned / against the law! if most cars in trini were LHD then i guess it would be the other way around. To me it's like driving up a 1-way or the same direction on the other side of the highway..

^no it's not.. that's a silly way of looking at it. i have a LHD car (300zx) and once you drive sensibly and keep a distance so you can see to overtake it's no problem.. stop hating

A Family Member of mines gotta Dodge Ram: Buying any gasoline pick-up in this country is a stupid idea, especially when it runs on premium (Especially when Hiluxes are available). Its a 4x2-single cab and though it has a big tray, its doesn't have proper tie on spots either. Though I will compliment it by saying it has been reliable and it does have some good pace coupled with pulling power (towed a boat with it), I honestly feel it makes no sense.

You should put another option: "Prefer RHD". Plus anyways, the states have been known to get watered down versions of their imported LHD cars if I remember correctly (Evo 8, BMW M3, etc.) thanks to some of their laws. Plus anyways, they don't put out much good cars anyways (except maybe viper, corvette, and the cts-v) though I have seen some of their cars sell for cheap prices indeed (if we only had a used car market like theirs).

Habit7 - i could see it being difficult to adjust at the beginning but there has to be a learning curve and i'm sure after time it can become second nature like anything else...

.:PROZAC:..- i'm speaking about both. Interesting point about the stigma that RHD cars in america and canada..there is one but 99% of the RHD cars there are japanese sports cars. No one really cares about them. I'm looking at possibly bring back some luxury and exotic cars. Nothing to wild, but the price i can get them at in the states is almost 1/2 anywhere else. Just makes sense to me.

coltspeed - you've certainly got a strong opinion but not sure if i get it

zcarz - yes the manoeuvring issue is out there but when i drive i always use all my mirrors and turn my head to look where i'm going...ALWAYS. I don't see how this could be a big issue.

ThatDamnDrunk - "the states have been known to get watered down versions of their imported LHD cars if I remember correctly (Evo 8, BMW M3, etc.) thanks to some of their laws. - they might be watered down but not to the extent where there useless. The price depending on the vehicle somewhat reflects that. I'm looking more at the LS600h, gallardo and MB G55amg...higher end stuff that's (like i stated above) 1/2 the price anywhere else in the world. I hate diesel trucks and cars. My family and I have and will continue to only own gas.
