The Koreans are going really bold with design, I salute them for that.

But the engineering is pretty conventional, I still cant trust them too much on reliability.

My gripe is the trend of putting the headlights at the bumper level and giving it the predator look...ie the Korean twins, new xtrail and the Mitsubishi. The rest I can live with. But looks are subjective , so I guess the predator/ juke look will appeal to some.

For the last 2 or so decades, what built the modern LC's reputation is that reliable naturally aspirated V8. It was part of its identity. Going V6 with turbos will not meet universal approval of its fanbase but I get the business model behind the downsizing. Toyota went the Ford route.

But it's not as bad as Nissan's Pathfinder that ditched the body on frame chassis for a unibody Maxima based platform. I hope Nissan's Patrol/Armada continues with a V8 going forward so at least they could have a unique bragging right of being the last surviving V8 powered body on frame Jap branded SUV which can go head to head with a Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon.

Based on what's available right now, I would have to say its a toss up between the RAV4, CRV and Forester for a comfy ride. If you want a more firm ride then the CX5 should appeal to you. My personal fav for ride however is the Forester. That thing is silky smooth. When things open back up, test drive all and see which one appeals to you, since everybody spine have varying thresholds.
